Interesting Facts about silver

1. Silver is the best conductor of heat AND electricity!
2. Silver can be used to make batteries called silver oxide batteries. They are made of about 35%
of silver. They are beginning to replace lithium ion batteries in watches and mobile devices, and
computers, though the batteries are more expensive.
3. Rechargeable batteries are manufactured with silver alloys as well
4. 1 oz of silver can make up 8,000 FT. of wire!
5. Sterling Silver is about 92.5% silver and the rest is usually copper.
6. 1 grain of silver (65mg) can be pressed into a sheet 150 times THINNER than the average
sheet of paper!!!
7. Silver is used for electrical wires in a modern car
8. Over 36 million oz. of silver is used in cars every year!
9. A Silver compound called ethylene oxide is used in antifreeze
10. Silver can be used in printed circuit board and in on/off switches.
11. Cds and DvDs are fabricated using silver.
12. Silver can be put in between a steel ball bearing and its housing reduces friction increasing the
performance of the car
13. Silver bearings are the strongest type of bearing used in airplanes and car engines.
