Greetings East Middle School Families,

As part of an ongoing effort to grow more globally minded, students in Spanish classes at EMS are participating
in a fundraiser in order to raise funds to sponsor a nine year-old girl named Lisbeth Nohemi Zacarias Morales
through Safe Passage. Lizbeth lives in Guatemala City in an impoverished area near the Guatemala City Garbage
Dump.
Last year, students decorated and sold coffee mugs to
raise funds. Here is a picture of Lizbeth holding a picture
of one of our Spanish classes holding the mugs they
decorated last year.
It is time to renew our sponsorship, so that Lizbeth can
continue to receive the assistance and educational
opportunities that are offered to her through the Safe
Passage Organization: a comprehensive and integrated
program that fosters hope, good health, educational
achievement, self-sufficiency, self-esteem and
confidence. Their primary focus is on creating
opportunities and dignity through the power of
education.
This year, East Middle School has partnered with La Seorita. Through the La Seorita Gives Back program, 20%
of the proceeds will be donated to help our efforts to support Lizbeth. There are three ways you can help:
1) Bring a ticket to the
La Seorita on Garfield Avenue in Traverse City
on Wednesday, May 6.
You can dine in or carry out: (231) 947-8820.
2) Purchase a La Seorita Gift Card for $10 to be used any other
time you order at La Seorita.
3) Direct Donations. Cash or checks made out to TCAPS.
If you wish to learn more about our efforts or have any questions, you can contact East Middle School Spanish
teachers Margaret Weinzapfel or Erin Riedel. You can also visit our website of information at
