Penelope's Pink Purse

Written by Elise Staiger-

Penelope was very excited for tomorrow because it was the first day of
her first grade year at Micesters Elementary School. In fact she was so excited
for her first day of school she had already picked out what she was going to
wear. She picked out her favorite sweater with three buttons that formed a
segment .

A segment is a part of a
line bounded by two
distinct endpoints and can
be measured. The segment
is represented in this photo
by the three buttons that
close Penelope's sweater.

Penelope was playing outside still very eager for tomorrow to come
when the mail man came by and dropped off a package. Very curios
Penelope picked up the package and brought it inside to her mother
waiting to see who it was from. Penelopes mother told her it was from
grandma to her. So Penelope opened the box and found a pink purse
that her grandmother sent her. Penelope had a smile on her face so big
that her mouth created an obtuse angle with her snout .

An obtuse angle is an angle

that measures more the ninety
degrees.
In this picture the obtuse
angle is represented by
Penelope's smile that is being
formed by her cheek bone and
lips which is more than a
ninety degrees angle.

Penelope was very excited to show all of her friends her new purse
tomorrow because she loves it so much. She loves her purse so much
because at the corners of her purse right angles form. Allowing her
juice box to fit in the corners of her purse perfectly so she has plenty of
room in there for her pencils and change.

A right angle is an angle
that measures ninety
degrees. A right angles is
being represented by
Penelope's pink purse, the
corners of her purse come
together to form a ninety
degree angle.

Penelope didnt go any where without her purse that night, she
didnt even put it down while she was eating dinner, because she loved
it so much. She also couldnt get the excitement of her going to school
tomorrow out of her head. Penelope talked and talked about going to
school and her new purse. Meanwhile her mom made her an ice cream
dessert that formed intersecting planes . After she ate her dessert she
went to bed.

Intersecting planes are
two planes that meet
in a single line. In this
picture intersecting
lines are being
displayed by the two
planes of ice cream
intersect together at
the line XY.

When Penelope woke up she ran to get her clothes on and to eat
breakfast. After she ate her breakfast she went to brush her teeth with
her tooth brush that formed a ray . Soon after she brushed her teeth she
was ready to get on the bus to go to school.

A ray has a starting point and
from that point it forever
extends in one direction. A
ray is represented in this
brush which is in the form of
a ray. The ray is created by
the handle and head of
Penelopes tooth brush.

When Penelope got to school she loved it and she loved every thing about it.
She loved the way all the desks lined up to be parallel lines and how all the kids
were nice. She loved everything so much she just couldnt wait until her teacher
started teaching but what she couldnt wait for most of all was to show off her new
pink purse.

Parallel lines are
two lines on a plain
that do not meet at
any point. In this
picture parallel
lines are
represented by
desks that are lined
up so they never
touch no matter

The school bell rang and Mr. Bugsby introduced him self then asked the whole
class to come sit on the story line, he said it went on forever and ever. Penelope
and all of her class mates went to sit on it waiting to hear the story. Penelope was
still so excited about her purse so she brought it over to the story line. Mr. Bugsby
began reading the story aloud.

A line is strait, has

no thickness, and
extends in both
directions infinitely.
In this picture a line
is represented by the
story line where the
kids come to sit
when there being

As Mr. Bugsby was reading to the class Penelope shook her purse
and then got glared at by Mr. Bugsby. He started reading aloud again
when Penelope leaned over to the girl next to her and started talking
about how much she loved her purse. Mr. Bugsby glared at her again but
went right back to reading the book. Then Penelope reached her hand
inside of her purse and made a jingling noise with her coins. Mr. Bugsby
put the book down and looked angrily at Penelope with his acute angle
snout then said in a stern voice Penelope stop messing with your
purse or Ill take it away!

An acute angle is an
angle with a measure
of less than ninety
degrees. In this
picture an acute
angle is being
represented by Mr.
Bugsbys narrow
snout while he is
frowning at Penelope.

Penelope didnt listen to Mr. Bugsby and shook her purse in front of
her friend so her friend could see how it was the perfect purse. Mr.
Bugsby then took the purse away from her and sent her to the
principles office. Penelope was very sad so she moped over to the door
opening it up just enough so she could walk out then then started
walking down the hall leaving the door open forming supplementary
angles .

Supplementary angles are two angles

who's some equals one hundredeighty degrees. In this picture
supplementary angles are being
represented by the door splitting the
wall into two different angles that
equal one hundred-eighty degrees
when Penelope left the door open
after leaving to go to the principle's
office.

Penelope was still walking down the hallway trying to find the
principles office but couldnt find it because the halls formed
intersecting lines and it made them very hard to navigate. Penelope
then decided she would knock on a teachers door to directions to the
principles office.

Intersecting lines are

two lines that have only
one common point. In
this picture intersecting
lines are shown by the
hallways of Micesters
Elementary School.

Penelope finally got to the principals office but the principal wasn't
there so she quietly waited and reached for magazine when she noticed
the two magazines on the principals desk formed perpendicular lines
but only until she picked one up.

Perpendicular lines are

two lines that form a
right angle with each
other. In this picture
perpendicular lines are
represented by the two
magazines setting on
the principle's desk.

The principal walked in and said hello, Penelopewas really

frightened because she had a really deep voice and her nose was at the
exact midpoint of her snout then to top it all of the principle was a cat .
It turned out Mrs. Gold the principal was very nice she started talking to
Penelope about her day and just gave her a warning then the end of the
day bell rang and miss gold sent Penelope home.

The midpoint is the

point in an object that is
the exact middle. In this
picture midpoint is being
represented by Mrs.
Golds nose that is in the
exact middle of her
snout.

When Penelope got home she decided to make Mr. Bugsby and her
class mates treats to make up for being rude and disturbing to the class
with her pink purse, So Penelope went to get her mom and explained
her whole day and why she wanted to make Mr. Bugsby and her class
treats. Of course Penelope's mom agreed and they got started, they
made the dough and plopped a little bit of dough on different spaces of
the pan and put them in the oven to bake. Twenty minutes later
Penelope heard a ding, the treats were ready so they pulled them out of
the oven and noticed that they look like vertical angles instead of
circles but Penelope didn't mind because they were going to taste great
for her whole class and Mr. Bugsby.

<1
Vertical angles are the
angles that are across
from each other when two
lines cross. The vertical
angles will also have the
same measure. In this
picture vertical angles are
represented by the treats
that are in the shape of
an X which forms vertical
angels.

The next day Penelope left her purse at home and brought
the treats to her classmates and Mr. Bugsby and everyone
forgave her for being rude yesterday. For the rest of the school
year Penelope left all of her distractions at home and had a
great year with Mr. Bugsby and the rest of her class.
