SUMMARY: The environmental law is a new discipline, which is in the process of
setting up its theories, concepts, features, principles, procedures. One of these creations is its object, the "environment" that not much has been questioned its connotation in doctrine, and that however exist ambiguity in its content, elements and scope, which have not been dispelled either by law or by interpretation to case law. This work aims to deepen in its origin and how it has been incorporated, into the legal world, the word that has been mentioned, ie, its process of juridification, for then mention their classification and characteristics. Studies about it, elaborate from ecology, are mentioned; how has passed to the Political Constitution of the Mexican United States and many ordinary systems is analyzed; and some jurisprudential thesis that seek to unravel its content and scope are transcribed
