Lead Teacher approach to instructional planning and behavior management.
Monthly Goals
Accountability
(What do you want to accomplish related to your instructional practice this month?)
(How can your mentor best support you to reach your monthly goals?)
(How can your lead teacher best support you to reach your monthly goals? What
information from your lead teacher do you need to be successful?)
Accountability
(What do you want to accomplish related to your instructional practice this month?)
-Co-plan and facilitate a full week of instruction
-Work on being concise with my words during instruction
-Work on being consistent in managing behavior
(How can your mentor best support you to reach your monthly goals?)
- I need advice on how to lead a classroom in all respects. I need her honest
feedback in the moments that she observes me in a lead role.
(How can your lead teacher best support you to reach your monthly goals? What
information from your lead teacher do you need to be successful?)
-I will rely on her to give me some starting resources in planning lessons and giving
me feedback on those lessons once they are planned.
-I will rely on feedback from my lead about how I instruct (the structure of my lesson,
my phrasing, and how I respond to questions) and manage misbehavior during my
instruction.
-I need her to lay out the important things that I need to know before her departure.
- I grew a lot this month. I got an early start with my small groups sessions and learned A TON from the planning and implementation of them. I grew
in my confidence level. Ive become more assertive in communicating with students about their behavior. Im making time to tell each of my kids
individually what I see that theyre doing right and figuring out steps to work on improving behavior. Im also stressing the importance of community to
my kids and helping them see what that looks like by acknowledging students when theyre treating others with kindness.
Accountability
(What do you want to accomplish related to your instructional practice this month?)
a) Plan and facilitate one full week of math and science instruction (last week of
December).
Feedback from Liz, Katie B., and Hyon will help me measure how successful I am in
introducing sentence stems into daily instruction.
b) Co-plan with Hyon (long-term sub) and co-facilitate up until last week of
December, when I will lead.
c) Start using sentence stems in instruction in order to boost student voice. Ex. use
popsicle sticks AFTER someone gives an answer. Ask students, would you like to
add onto that? Tell me why you agree or disagree with that. Do you think what ___
just suggested would work?
(How can your mentor best support you to reach your monthly goals?)
(How can your lead teacher best support you to reach your monthly goals? What
information from your lead teacher do you need to be successful?)
I need him to be more communicative so that I know what my role is every day and
so that we begin a successful co-teaching relationship.

Accountability
(What do you want to accomplish related to your instructional practice this month?)
Im building a relationship with two new cohorts of kids, so I want this month to be
focused on relationship building. Our Humanities block looks like this:
First block=ELA/LLI
Second block=Geography
My plan is to take more of a leadership role in the ELA part of the block.
(How can your mentor best support you to reach your monthly goals?)
Observing my new role in a new classroom and giving me feedback on that role.
(How can your lead teacher best support you to reach your monthly goals? What
information from your lead teacher do you need to be successful?)
Check-in meeting with Betty from 12:00-12:30 every Tuesday.
January was a month of being a lead teacher. I felt I made HUGE progress in each of my goal areas; especially making student voices a priority in
every lesson. I feel really good and proud of where I stand as a lead in my math/science room.
Accountability
(What do you want to accomplish related to your instructional practice this month?)
Planning and facilitating a full week of instruction.
Try figuring out a way to manipulate with geography unit.
(How can your mentor best support you to reach your monthly goals?)
Feedback through observations and suggestions on how to tweak prescribed
curriculum.
(How can your lead teacher best support you to reach your monthly goals? What
information from your lead teacher do you need to be successful?)
Check-in with Betty and get feedback.
Yes, I jumped right into leading small groups during ELA and building relationships with two new cohorts.
