Grade 2: Weekly Update


Language:
We are doing a lot of work on nonfiction text and comprehension of
key details and the main idea.
We are finishing up writing
instructions. We have started to
write persuasive writing. We are
learning to form and support our
own opinion.

Math:
-We are still working on fractions. We
are finding the fraction of bigger
numbers now such as 24, 30 and
finding equivalent fractions. We will
do the unit test on Sunday May 3rd, so
please help your child to review
fractions using these games:

How We Organize Ourselves


-We started our second line of
Inquiry Food Distribution. We
are looking at different ways food
can get to us including the
differences between local/
imported foods, fair trade.
Fresh/Frozen etc. Encourage your
child to look at labels and discuss
where the food on your dinner
table has come from.

Next Week:
-We are investigating what materials
will better work to insulate food and
therefore would be used in the
distribution. We might be asking you
for some materials you have in the
home
-We will start our third line of
inquiry discussing how people using
their knowledge when making
decisions about food.
