Grade 2: Weekly Update

Welcome to Term 3! We have had a wonderful first week back in Grade 2.
It has been very fun tuning into our new unit!
Language:
-We have been learning how to sequence events
and write instructions
- We read non-fiction stories and found the main
idea and the details
- We completed our Spelling Assessment Check so
that we can re-group the children into new
spelling groups.

Math:
-We learned about fractions! We learned how to
share equally. We used new vocabulary such as
denominator, numerator, half, quarter, third, fifth
etc. We also focused on how you can find half or a
quarter of a certain amount of items. Example: What
is one quarter of 24 apples?
-We will continue to work on fractions next week, as
this is a topic that takes some time!

How We Organize Ourselves

-We are having so much fun tuning into our new
unit of Inquiry!
- We investigated food products and fund out
their origins- and then placed the items onto a
map!
- We also made predictions and an experiment to
see how we can preserve an apple

Next Week:
Next week we will have spelling homework again.
Please note that the spelling will be a bit different
than in term 2, but will be explained to your child
very carefully. We are trying to prepare them for
Grade 3. Please make sure you take a look at the
new spelling packet that comes home on Sunday.
