April News!
Spelling Bee
We will be having our annual Third Grade
Spelling Bee on Wednesday, June 3. We
are currently using our weekly spelling
tests to help students practice the Spelling
Bee words. A list of all 100 words went
home in the Monday Envelopes a few
weeks ago. Students are encouraged to
study all 100 words. We will start by
having an in-class Spelling Bee on Friday,
May 1. The final 5 students from our class
will compete in the Third Grade Spelling
Bee in June. Please encourage your child to
study for the Spelling Bee!:)

Math Homework
Math homework will begin to change slightly. In
preparation for our Smarter Balanced State
Testing taking place in early May, we will be
practicing problems similar to what the students
may see on the test. We are working through
some problems each day in class. The following
week, students will see these problems in their
homework. Please encourage your child to ask for
help if they need it, as these problems will be
similar to what they will see on the test.

In the Upcoming Weeks

Math: We will be finishing up our unit on fractions
this week and moving on to data. Students will be
gathering data and learning how to represent it
on a graph.

Something to Remember!
**Students are encouraged to write on
their blog at home. They can write about
their weekend, a vacation, or something
they may have researched or learned. I do
look for a blogger of the month to display
in the classroom.

English Language Arts: We have started our

unit on fables. Students have been reading about
the wolf in various fables. They have answered
text dependent questions and written multiple
opinion pieces about the wolf. We will continue to
work on our opinion writing as well as read more
about wolves. We will also be starting a new
project soon about natural disasters. Students will
be given a specific natural disaster that they will
research and create an informational brochure
about.
