Reflection on Learning

My philosophy regarding freedom and responsibility before I started this

course was that we should accept all differences between people, because no one is
the same, we are all very unique, and because of that, we should do our best to
accept one another. If we would succeed to do so, I believe the world would be a
much different place, a better one for sure. Regarding responsibility, before this
course, I never really gave much thought of what my responsibility in society was; I
thought my responsibility was just to be a decent person to society, but it goes way
beyond that. We are responsible for what happened around us, because if things are
not fair and just, it is our responsibility to try to make a change. It was not until this
class that I have heard the term unjust law. I had no idea what it meant. I have
learned that unjust law is a law that it only protects and benefits a portion of
society, leaving the remainder without any rights. A great example of this was the
right of vote, which not until a few decades ago, the only citizens that were entitled
to vote were white males, leaving women without the right to vote. Because some
brave group of women decided to do their civic responsibility and fight for their right
to vote. I am very thankful for those brave women that once had to stand up for
things that now we all take for granted.
I believe from the lessons we have worked on during the semester, the one
that I will take with me the most is the chapters about religion. Reason why is
because I had no knowledge of any of the other religions, with the exception of the
ones with Christian origins, not that I didnt respect the other religions before, but
now I have a better understanding of what their rituals and habits are, making it
easier to be more sympathetic with people that I might meet in the future that are
from a different culture than mine.
