Focus of Lesson: Ultimate Frisbee
Student Performance Objectives (SPO):
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(P) demonstrate the proper techniques and strategies using during ultimate
Frisbee with 70% accuracy(SHAPE S2.H1; MA CF 2.17)
(C) Identify the strategies they used during gameplay with 100% accuracy at

the end of the lesson when asked by the teacher (NASPE S2.H1; MA CF 2.17)
(A) demonstrate proper behavior by respecting other, the teacher, and the
equipment 100% of the time (NASPE S4.H2; MA CF 2.26)
Check each objective is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it
developmentally appropriate?
Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Use students to demonstrate situations that may occur in gameplay
2. Provide corrective feedback when needed during gameplay
3. Make sure to address safety throughout the entire lesson and enforce fouls
when seen
Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique
about the students in this class?
This class is huge and I will be getting them into gameplay. I need to make sure
that I am keeping my head on a swivel during gameplay. There will be multiple
matches going on at once which will make it extremely difficult to observe
everybody at the same time.

CFU- What are the skill cues for the forehand and
backhand pass? Way to catch a Frisbee? What
are some common strategies used in Ultimate
Frisbee? Can we make contact? When does a
turnover occur?
Activity 1- Students will find a partner and begin
to throw with them. They will work on both the
backhand and forehand throws. Extension up- if
they are doing well they may move back.
Extension down- if they are struggling they may
get closer to their partner. During this activity
they will be observing their partner and really
focusing on the skills cues we went over before
class. The backhand throw will be the only one
in which they will need to remember how well
their partner performed.
Assessment- each partner will receive a paper
and a pencil. They will read the assessment and
follow the directions. It will involve a peer
assessment of the skill cues related to the

backhand throw. One partner will fill out the

assessment at a time. They will simply place
check mark in the box they believe there partner
was performing in.
Activity 2- The students will now be involved in
gameplay for the rest of class. They will be
broken up into games depending on cooperative
and competitive competitions. The teams will
consist of about 4 or 5 players per team
depending on numbers. Cones will be used to
make playing field and the end zones. Once a
point is scored the offense will use a throw off to
start the game back up. These games will last
around 5 or 6 minutes before they switch to play
another team depending how many competitive
or cooperative teams there are. Extension upstudents will have to complete 3, 4, 5 passes
before scoring a point, must only pass forward.
Extension down- students will only be allowed to
speed walk or walk if they are having trouble
scoring points
Closure- what are some strategies used in each
activity? What strategies worked, which didnt?
Did they like the game? Different types of
passes? Skill cues for backhand and forehand?
What are the rules of ultimate?

Transition- pickup equipment and walk back to

the gym.
Students will be given 5 minutes to change.
