major cleanup to the trout pond at Heritage Village is hoped to provide a healthier environment for fish this summer.
Last Th ursday, the stale water was pumped from the trout pond by
the Town. Once drained of water, it was found that a fair bit of sediment
had filled the bottom over the years. To remedy this problem, a backhoe
was called in to remove the sediment and dig the bottom of the trout
pond back to its original depth. This was done through a generous donation of labour from Clint Moffat and Sons Ltd. with the donation of
equipment from Toromont CAT Brandon through their rep Scott Gibson. A backhoe with an extra long arm was brought in to allow all work
to be done from the east side of the trout pond rather than having to
work around the west side docks and wooden pillars along the roadway.
By cleaning the bottom of the trout pond and returning it to its original depth, the water in the pond should remain at a cooler temperature.
A new water supply line is also being installed from the lake to the trout
pond. All of this work, being undertaken by Little River Game and Fish
and The Town of Minnedosa are hoped to result in a healthy trout pond
for summer visitors to enjoy at the Heritage Village.
Manitoba Fisheries is expected to introduce this years stock of fi sh
into the trout pond within the next few days once the cleanup work has
been completed.
