Grass starts to the food chain. It is producer. Producer is green plants simply use sunlight
and water to make it.

Whats a consumer?
Grasshopper is primary consumer. It is eats a grass. Grasshoppers are herbivorous.
Herbivorous only eat plants.
Frog is secondary consumer. It is eats a grasshopper. Frogs are carnivores. Carnivores only
eat meat.
Owl is tertiary consumer. It is eats a frog. Owls are omnivores. Omnivores eat plants and
animals.

Whats a decomposer?
Bacteria and fungi are decomposers. They eat decaying matter dead owl and in the process they break
them down and decompose them. When that happens, they release nutrients and mineral salts back into
the soil - which then will be used by grass.

Why is this food chain important?


The food chain provides the energy that all living things need in order to survive .If there is
a break in the link in the chain, then all organisms above this link are in danger of
extinction. Image the world without plants .How would animals survive?
