PART 1: PROBLEM SOLVING
An engineer is planning to design a typical floor. The engineer will use I- sections for the exterior
girder, square tubing for the interior girders, tee section for beams. The engineer considers the
practicality of connections of two members. The engineer uses 6 mm thick steel plate on the entire
panel with wood block (76mm) on 13mm thick mortar and minimum mechanical electrical load of 0.15
kPa. The floor is intended to as an office meeting room. Design the most practical and economical
sections for the given loading conditions.
