Muhammad Civil Disobedience

On April 28, 1967 Muhammad Ali was


drafted into the United States Army
because they was at war with Vietnam. Ali
refused to be enlisted into the military. Ali
recently converted to the Islam and didn't
believe in war. His act of civil disobedient
lead him to jail. (History.com)

On June 20, 1967 Muhammad ali was


charged with draft evasion was sentenced to
five years in prison. They also fined him of
$10,000 and banned him from being a
boxer for three years.

Cause Of Resistance
Muhammad Ali converted to
the nation of Islam in 1964.
He was a practicing Muslim
minister and did not believe
in war. His religious beliefs
prevented him from fighting
in the vietnam war.

How Muhammad Ali resisted


Muhammad Ali refused to fight in the
Vietnam war by refusing to be
enlisted into the military. When he
was standing in line, the officer called
his name to make an oath,
Muhammad Ali stood still and did not
move. When Ali was given a second
chance to take the oath, he continued
to refuse and then signed a

Civil Disobedience
Thoreau says Why has every man a conscience, then? I think that we
should be man first, and subject afterward(Thoreau). Muhammad Ali
relates to this because Ali makes a statement saying It is in the light of
my consciousness as a Muslim minister and my own personal
convictions that I take my stand in rejecting the call to be inducted.

by going with his conscience. Muhammad Ali says I have searched my
conscience (TheGuardian.com). Muhammad Ali put stuck with his
belief regardless of the punishment. He continuously refused to be
enlisted because of what he believed in and took the consequences
that came with his decision.
