What is Remarriage?
Remarriage is a marriage that takes place after a previous marital union has
ended, as through divorce or widowhood.

Reasons for divorce or separation

Couples are unhappy


Emotional or Physical Abuse
Infidelity

Economic Tensions
Drug or Alcohol addiction

Effects of remarriage on children


Readjustment
Feelings of Resentment
Feelings of Betrayal and Discomfort

Common struggles children experience

Changing schools
Adjusting to new rules set by a stepparent
Feeling unloved or unwanted

Having to share a room with new siblings


Jealousy
Losing their routines and family traditions
Having new adults in their lives e.g. step parents, girlfriends, boyfriends

How children adjust to blended families
