One Wheel Assembly

One Wheel Assembly

Self balancing skateboard.
Runs on battery power.
Senses human body movements.
Accelerates or decelerates accordingly.
Maximum attainable speed would be 10-12 miles per

hour.
Product already exists in the market.
However, main objective is to provide a cheaper
alternative.
About 67-70% reduction in costs.
Without compromising on its quality.

Wheel Assembly Hub And Stator

Wheel Assembly - HUB

Wheel Assembly - Hub

Direct drive system.
Motor acts as a transducer.
Input Power = Electrical Power (Depends on voltage and

current).
Output Power = Mechanical Power (Depends on torque
and rotational velocity).
Due to the absence of drive components (Axles, clutch,
gears), there will be about 15-20% additional power.
Rim will be distinct and removable from the hub.
Directly bolted to the endcap projection.

Wheel Assembly - Hub

Brushless DC Motor will be used (Electronic switches

instead of mechanical brush and copper switches which

routes the current).
The torque of this motor will depend on a. Number of turns per phase.
b. Strength of permanent magnetic field.
c. Length of the stator/core.
d. Radius of stator.
e. Current in the motor windings.
.The torque scales linearly with the current.
.Possible to increase the torque within a factor of 2.

Wheel Assembly - Stator

Wheel Assembly - Stator

Stator will have 12 teeth and 7 pole pairs (14 magnets).
Electrical/Transformer Steel sheets (Consists of high silicon).
Enhances its magnetic characteristics and reduces its

conductivity.
Also to minimizes the eddy current loses.
A maximum diameter of 135 mm will be used for the stator.
The more the length and diameter of the stator, the less
number of turns and current will be required.
The material of the magnet will be Neodymium Iron Boron
(NIB).
Powerful magnets with a Curie point temperature of about 80
degree Celsius.

Reasons for
Malfunctioning

Motor was under powered.

Tubeless mechanism was planned but
could not be implemented.
Arduino calibration should be done
precisely.
A compact design should be promoted.
Balancing should be prefect (Rider skill)
Proper sealed connections.

Future Scope
Maximum Speed and High Initial starting

torque.
Small size motor (Less than 4 inch).
Rollable Amorphous thin Solar Cells.
Pressure Switch below the riders foot.
Calibration of IMU sensors to be done.
