Bronte School

Headmasters Newsletter 17
24th October 2014
Thank you to all the parents who attended this weeks
parents meetings, and to the teachers as well. I know
colleagues greatly value these meetings, and the chance
to catch up, report on progress and think about the
future. I saw many parents myself over the two evenings,
but if anyone would like to see me, do please get in
touch.

There was more bad hair around today than in a 1970s rock
concertwith some superb creations all through the school.
Particularly striking were Francesca Edler-Maidments
tableau of a pink-haired Barbie-like mermaid enjoying life in
the sun under a palm tree. Ian Dermits head started the day
densely covered by chocolates, but these somehow seemed
to disappear rather rapidly. Katy Perry or Taylor Swift would
have drooled with envy had they espied the wild creations
of Ciara Patel or Evie-Rose Palmer. David Beckham could
have taken a few lessons from Jeevan Bains about in-yourface metropolitan style.
These were just some of the 19 prizewinners. Thank you
very much to Bronte Friends for organising the event and for
all the prizes.
Its an event at which I have a feeling I personally could well
feel slightly out of place, but Id like to take this opportunity
to recommend to you or perhaps to around half of you the Bronte Friends Pamper Night on Friday 5th December.
Organised by Mrs Munt and Mrs Borthwick, the evening
surely promises glamour, mystery and style. So you can put
the date in your diaries, andfurther details to follow.
The winners from the Lego Challenge on 1st October were
the team of Adarsh Sivakumar, Rio Thind and Sam Verrall.
On Thursday, they travelled with Mrs Gordon and Mrs
Lippard to the regional finals, held at BAE Systems in
Rochester, and run by The Medway Business Enterprise
Partnership. The challenge to the children was to design
and build a Lego house. The designing was the hardest part,
with precise drawings required for all sides, roof, interior
walls and furniture, enabling the children to calculate the
exact number of bricks to purchase. This was important as
they were limited to a specific budget. I saw their drawings
and they really were impressive. It was a very successful day,
and our team produced a first class result definite potential engineers and architects here.

Finally, can I put out a request concerning the school car

park at pick-up and drop-off time? The car park is too
small to be used for pick-up and drop-off, and so parents
are asked to either pause on Pelham Road on the single
yellow line or to use the Church car park adjacent to the
school on the town side. Rules for single yellow lines do
allow for a brief leaving of the car whilst children are
taken to the gate. However, the church car park has
many benefits - we are fortunate that the church
authority has been so generous.
The school car park is used for pick-up and drop-off only
by the school minibus, school taxis and by a very small
number of separately-arranged family taxi vehicles.
I hope everyone has a really fun-filled, enjoyable and
restful half term break.
