accentsgave.Ididntnoticemuchabouttheaccentsbesidesthefactthattheybroughtus

RichardWrighthadtosayaboutthenovel,Icanseehowthebookseemstobeaccepting
stereotypesthatcouldsettheraceback.Thediscussionsthroughouttheseminar
coincidentlyledustocreatesomewhatofatimelineofJanieslifeandhowshegrewas
anindividual.Itwasfascinatingtoseehergrowthandstrengththatshedeveloped.As

shortlyafterJodyhaddied..ThiswholebookseemedtobeaboutJaniestransformation
fromwhatotherpeoplewantedhertodo,tofinallydoingthingsforherself.Intheend,it
seemedshemadedecisionswithoutworryingaboutthedisappointmentorjudgmentof
others.ForexamplewhenPheobyandJanieweretalkingaboutthemourningofJody,
JaniewasntafraidtospeakhermindevenafterPheobyexpressedherconcernsabout
whatthepublicwouldsay.Letemsaywhutdewantstuh,Pheoby.Tomythinkin
mourningoughtnttuhlastnolongergrief.Thiswasoneofthemomentsthatwe
noticedJanieevolvingasacharacter.Shewasnolongerdoingandsayingthingsfor
