Welcome
Thank you for your interest in joining the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program and on behalf of
General Practice Education and Training Limited (GPET), welcome to the application and selection process for the
2015 AGPT program.
General practice is the cornerstone of the Australian health care system, and we believe that we offer the best general
practice training program in the world.
The AGPT program is managed by GPET and delivered by a national network of regional training providers (RTPs)
dedicated to supporting GP registrars as they embark on a career in general practice.
The 2015 cohort will join a system of education that fosters innovation and forms an integrated framework from undergraduate
medical education through to prevocational and vocational training and continuing professional development.
The AGPT program delivers the vocational training programs of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
(RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
Registrars commencing training in 2015 will be part of an Australia-wide program that offers extended links via the
colleges, regional training providers, universities, Medicare Locals and others, to create a seamless environment for
lifelong learning.
This publication contains all the information you need to help you submit your application via the GPET website at
www.gpet.com.au. While the information found here is true and correct at the time of printing, it may be subject to change

Full-time equivalence. Refers to the time registrars undertake different aspects of training on a parttime basis, which is used to compare full-time and part-time registrar training
Where the term general practice is used in this Guide it is (where the context permits) deemed to
include regional, rural and remote medicine
General registration is granted after provisional or limited registration to a doctor who has met all
requirements set out by the Medical Board of Australia and/or the AMC
The general pathway is for doctors who wish to train primarily in inner and/or outer metropolitan
areas. However, doctors can train in any RA1-5 area on the general pathway. The rural pathway is
for doctors who wish to undertake the majority of their training in rural and remote areas of Australia.

interests of and supports GP supervisors
Higher Education Contribution Scheme
Applicants apply for the AGPT program during a specified time period. This time period is referred to
as an intake. Applications can only be considered during an intake period
The Medical Board of Australia works in partnership with the Australian Health Practitioners
Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Key functions are to register medical practitioners, develop standards,
codes and guidelines for the medical profession
Multiple Mini Interviews. MMIs form part of the national assessment process requiring applicants
to rotate between six interview stations, answering a question at each station. The MMIs take
approximately 1-2 hours and are conducted at National Assessment Centres
National Assessment Centre. Where an eligible applicant undertakes the MMIs during stage 2
(national assessment) of the AGPT selection process
National Minimum Terms and Conditions. A document developed by GPRA, GPSA and the AMA
which outlines the terms and conditions of employment for GPT 1 and GPT 2 registrars
National Testing Centre. Where an eligible applicant undertakes the online Situational Judgement
Test (SJT) during stage 2 (national assessment) of the AGPT selection process
Practice ready refers to applicants who have satisfactorily completed their hospital-based training
in order to meet the colleges prevocational training requirements and can commence their required
general practice/primary rural and remote training at the start of the 2015 training year
Situational Judgement Test. The online SJT forms part of the national assessment process where
applicants sit a 120-minute test (50 multiple choice question). The SJT is undertaken at a National
Testing Centre (a separate location to the MMIs)

Applicants who undertake the MMIs and online SJT are scored and placed in one of ten bands to
give each applicant an understanding of how they have performed at national assessment compared
to other applicants
A doctor who is enrolled in the AGPT program. Also referred to as a GP registrar
Recognition of prior learning
Regional training provider. RTPs are contracted by GPET to deliver the AGPT program regionally
Refers to the RTP an applicant has chosen when selecting up to four RTP preferences in their
AGPT application
A statutory provision, which may be applicable to overseas-trained doctors (OTDs) and foreign
graduates of an accredited medical school (FGAMS). For the purposes of the AGPT program,
applicants subject to section 19AB are required to train on the rural pathway
When a registrar obtains specialist (general practitioner) registration from the Medical Board of
Australia it means they are qualified to practice as a general practitioner and bill Medicare accordingly
Applicants receive a total AGPT selection score comprised of both their SJT and MMI scores, both
have equal weight (50%). The raw scores for each assessment are converted to T scores and Z
scores for standardisation and then reconverted to an applicants total AGPT selection score
Two statistical terms used in the process of standardising scores. Z scores are used when the
population mean and population standard deviation are known, while T scores are used when the
population parameters are not known. Applicants SJT and MMI scores are standardised using T
scores and Z scores to determine their total AGPT selection score

(see page 19 for a full list of RTPs).

and for placing registrars with these facilities to undertake their training.

The Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM)
The Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP)
After completing all training and requirements of the ACRRM and/or the RACGP, a registrar is eligible for the award of
Fellowship of the ACRRM (FACRRM) and/or Fellowship of the RACGP (FRACGP).
Registrars who are awarded college Fellowship (either FACRRM or FRACGP or both) are eligible to apply for specialist
(general practitioner) registration.
The respective colleges award the vocational end points of training (FRACGP and/or FACRRM) and are responsible for
setting the vocational training curriculum and standards which apply to registrars undertaking the AGPT program.
The colleges are also responsible for considering and granting recognition of prior learning (RPL), fellowship assessment,
certification and continuing professional development.
The two colleges accredit RTPs to deliver training in line with the colleges curriculum and training standards.
Training
The AGPT program supports three fellowships, outlined below, two of which (FACRRM and FRACGP) lead to specialist
(general practitioner) registration.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Deciding which fellowship to undertake is a personal decision. GPET recommends that doctors
considering applying for the AGPT program contact both colleges (and their preferred RTP) to discuss options and
determine the best fit for their learning style, career goals and the skill set they wish to attain.

Dual fellowship
Registrars are able to undertake dual fellowships with both RACGP and ACRRM. The training must be concurrent and
should only be pursued after discussions with a registrars RTP. For further information applicants should contact their

General pathway
The general pathway is for doctors who wish to train primarily in inner and/or outer metropolitan areas. However, doctors
on the general pathway can train in all Australian Standard Geographical Classification Remoteness Areas (RA) 1-5
locations (see page 13).
Registrars on the general pathway are required to fulfil a 12-month general pathway training obligation. This obligation can
be met by completing one of the four following options:

Please note: this obligation cannot be met in the hospital year of the AGPT program i.e. Core Clinical Training Time for
FACRRM and Hospital Training Time for FRACGP.
Doctors undertaking the general pathway can pursue the FRACGP and/or FACRRM. However, the Primary Rural and
Remote Training (PRRT) components of the FACRRM training program (see FACRRM Qualification Australian General
Practice Training 2015 page 11), are generally undertaken in accredited practices in RA2-5 locations.
Applicants are encouraged to discuss their training options with their preferred RTP and with the relevant college.
Rural pathway
The rural pathway is for doctors who wish to undertake the majority of their training in regional, rural and remote areas
of Australia.
Doctors on the rural pathway must train in RA2-5 locations (see page 13).
The rural pathway offers registrars a range of benefits and opportunities commensurate with the work of rural general
practice for example, access to procedural training.
Doctors who are offered an AGPT place on the rural pathway can elect to enrol in the FRACGP and/or FACRRM.
Overseas-trained doctors and foreign graduates of accredited medical schools (FGAMS) who are subject to Section 19AB
of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (10-year moratorium) are required to train on the rural pathway unless, at the time of
applying, they hold an exemption under Section 19AB (3) from the Minister for Health.
Please note: Doctors who gain an exemption under Section 19AB (3) after they have commenced training are not
automatically entitled to a transfer to another RTP or pathway.

During the first year of hospital-based training within the AGPT program, registrars are paid through the relevant state
health department according to the appropriate awards for junior medical officers.
During the first 12 months of community-based training (GP Terms/PRRT), registrars are employed by training practices
and the terms and conditions of employment are outlined in a document entitled National Minimum Terms and Conditions
(NMTC) for GPT 1 and GPT 2 Registrars.
This document is developed independently of GPET by General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA), General Practice
Supervisors Australia (GPSA) and the Australian Medical Association (AMA).The current document is available on the
GPRA website at www.gpra.org.au
After successfully completing the first 12 months of community-based training, registrars are able to negotiate their own
terms and conditions as part of the transition towards becoming independent practitioners.
While registrars are responsible for negotiating their own terms and conditions, registrars who feel they need assistance
should seek advice from registrar liaison officers, their RTP or GPRA before approaching practices.
GPET, including the AGPT Selection team, is not involved in the determination of the NMTC and cannot advise or assist
registrars in this area; further questions should be directed toward the RTPs and/or GPRA.
Incentives
The following incentives promote careers in outer metropolitan, rural and remote areas.
General Practice Rural Incentives Program
The General Practice Rural Incentives Program (GPRIP) aims to promote careers in rural medicine and increase the
number of doctors in rural and remote communities in the long term. GPRIP comprises of three components: a registrar
component, a GP component, and the Rural Relocation Incentive Grant (RRIG). The registrar component provides
incentive payments to registrars in the AGPT program (rural or general pathway).
All registrars practising in an RA2-5 location (see page 13), are eligible for the registrar component of GPRIP after the
mandatory hospital year of training is complete. Incentive payments are scaled depending on the length of time a registrar
trains in a rural location, the remoteness of the location and the full time equivalence (FTE) of services provided.
Upon fellowship, registrars may receive incentive payments under the GP component of GPRIP if they continue to practise
in rural locations.

Outer metropolitan incentives
Outer metropolitan incentives are available for general pathway registrars undertaking at least 12 months training in an
outer metropolitan location.

Transfers
Transfers between RTPs and between general and rural pathways are available in certain circumstances and only with the
agreement of the RTPs and GPET.
While strict restrictions apply within the first six months of the program, transfers at any stage of training cannot be
assumed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Academic posts
The everyday practice of GPs is based on evidence. GPs and registrars need to be able to filter, critically appraise,
interpret and apply the myriad of information available to them.
The AGPT program appreciates this need and supports opportunities to up-skill registrars in the areas of research and
critical thinking. The AGPT program offers the opportunity to undertake salaried training for a period of 12 months parttime, in an academic post.
During an academic post, AGPT registrars develop skills in research, teaching, project work and critical evaluation of
research relevant to the discipline of general practice. These skills will be of use throughout their careers and will contribute
to knowledge exchange and development.
Some examples of previous academic post projects include:
Transient Ischaemic Attacks in Community Settings: consultation patterns, risk factor recognition and
management in twelve-months prior to TIA and minor stroke

Training Requirements
General requirements
Successful applicants are required to commence active training with their nominated RTP at the beginning of the 2015
training year.
Applicants should contact their preferred RTP for advice on potential placements for 2015, particularly if they wish to
commence training in a community-based general practice placement.
AGPT registrars are required to participate in a range of education activities and regularly receive feedback on their progress.

Mandatory hospital rotations
Certain hospital rotations must be completed by doctors in their PGY1 and 2 years, or later.
These mandatory hospital rotations do not have to be completed before application and entry into the
AGPT program.
Where possible all rotations should be completed prior to the second year of the AGPT program when registrars begin
working in the general practice setting (see Year Two Australian General Practice Training 2015, page 11).

Applicants are required to register for the AGPT program through the online application system.
A valid and reliable email address is required for correspondence.
Applicants can register between 10.00am AEST* 14 April and 10.00am AEST 9 May 2014.
To register online, go to www.gpet.com.au, and register with a current and active email address.
Once registered a confirmation email will be sent to the entered email address. This email will include a six-digit 2015
AGPT applicant ID and password. The applicant ID is also the username needed to access the online application.
Returning applicants
Applicants, who have registered and/or applied in previous years, can access and apply for the 2015 AGPT intake via the
online applicant portal (further information below).
Applicants must log in using their previous applicant ID number and apply for 2015. Once logged in a new application ID
number will be generated to correspond with the new application year.

Applicants who obtained their primary medical degree in Australia/New Zealand but were NOT born in Australia/New
Zealand must provide evidence of their residency status at the commencement of their degree.
This information will be used to determine the applicants moratorium status.

If an applicant has, or is anticipating having conditions and/or undertakings on their medical registration at the
commencement of the 2015 AGPT program training year, they must:

section under Policies) prior to applying to the AGPT program.
It is the applicants responsibility to demonstrate that the conditions and undertakings attached to their general medical
registration do not hinder their ability to:

If the applicant fails to provide their conditions and/or undertakings with their application, then the AGPT Selection team
may seek clarification regarding the conditions/undertakings from the Medical Board of Australia.
If clarification cannot be obtained then the application for AGPT will be deemed ineligible.

Conditional medical registration documents required:
The AGPT Selection team does not guarantee that applicants with conditions or undertakings attached to their medical
registration will be employed by hospitals, training practices or other training posts, despite their eligibility for entry into the
AGPT program.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Applicants must disclose any conditions and/or undertakings on their medical registration
to the AGPT Selection team in the online application form. If these restrictions are not disclosed it can significantly
impact an application in the subsequent selection stages.
Applicants with conditions or undertakings on their medical registration will be treated on a case-by-case basis. The
more comprehensive the information received, the sooner a decision can be made regarding your application.
Applicants who do not disclose medical registration conditions or undertakings and obtain a position in
the AGPT program may have their training offer withdrawn.
Applicants must provide detailed information disclosing any conditions and/or undertakings on their medical
registration. If these conditions and/or undertakings are set after the AGPT application has been submitted,
applicants must contact the AGPT Selection team via selection@gpet.com.au to update their application.
Applicants medical registration may be check numerous times throughout the Selection process to ensure their
current medical registration status is recorded.

Applicants are asked to identify any disability or special circumstance that may affect their ability to take part in the online
SJT or face-to-face MMIs. For example:

Applicants are asked to identify the nature of their disability or special circumstance and any reasonable adjustments that
could be made to accommodate their attendance and full participation in the national assessment process.
The AGPT Selection team will attempt to accommodate an applicants circumstances, where feasible and reasonable.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
The AGPT Selection team will endeavour to accommodate an applicants special needs throughout the national
assessment process.
Travel and current work commitments do not constitute a disability or special circumstance and will not be considered
by the AGPT Selection team.

In general, registrars in the AGPT program remain with their chosen RTP for the duration of their training.
While it is possible to transfer once training has begun, this needs to be approved by both RTPs involved and GPET. There
are restrictions on transfers between RTPs within the first six months of general practice/primary rural and remote training.
Transfers from rural to general pathways must be supported by evidence of exceptional circumstances that justify a
pathway change.
Please refer to the Transfer Policy 2010 at www.gpet.com.au in the About us section under Policies for further information.
While applicants are free to nominate any four RTP preferences (within their visa restrictions), the AGPT Selection team
strongly advises applicants not to nominate an RTP they are not willing to train with, and (if necessary) relocate to.
Transfers between RTPs and pathways are restricted and never guaranteed. Please refer to page 20 for more information
on transfers.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
There are two restrictions that applicants must be aware of when nominating RTP preferences:
1. Applicants subject to section 19AB of the Health Insurance Act 1973, who have not supplied a section
19AB (3) exemption from the Minister for Health through the Department of Health, are unable to
nominate the general pathway.
2. Applicants who have previously applied to the AGPT program and were shortlisted to the same RTP
twice, either in the same year or separate consecutive years, and were not offered a training place on
either occasion are unable to renominate that specific RTP without the RTPs written consent.

Section F: Referees
Applicants are required to provide the names and contact details of two referees as part of their online application.
Each referee must be able to comment effectively on the applicants:
A referee should be a medical practitioner who has directly supervised the applicant for a period of four weeks or longer
within the past three years.
Applicants must seek permission from their referees to supply the referees contact details to the AGPT Selection team.
Provided they meet the criteria outlined above suitable referees may include:
Staff specialist
Medical superintendent
Visiting medical officer
Hospital registrar
General practitioner.
If applicants are unable to nominate referees who meet the above criteria then they must contact the AGPT Selection team
on 1800 DR AGPT (1800 37 2478) or email selection@gpet.com.au to discuss their individual circumstances.
Referees must:
Referees may be contacted during RTP placement assessments (stage three). Applicants must provide a business hours
telephone number and an active email address for each referee. Either of these may be used to contact referees.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Referees who do not meet the above criteria may not be approved to support an applicants application.

This Privacy Notice outlines how we will manage your personal information (and sensitive information) in accordance with
our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What we collect
For the purpose of your application we collect from you: your name, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses,
occupation, academic history, employment history, family background, financial records and Department of Human
Services (Medicare) records.
Sensitive information we collect is minimal and may include racial or ethnic origin and health information (in rare cases).
We will seek your consent to collect any sensitive information about you.
We try to collect your personal information directly from you. Sometimes we may collect personal information or sensitive
information from a person or entity other than yourself. We would not collect this information for purposes outside the scope
of the services that we are providing to the Australian Government.
We will not be able to accept, process or manage your training (if your application is successful) unless you provide us with
your personal information.
There may be other circumstances where we need to collect your personal information. For example, we may collect
your sensitive information to undertake research relevant to public health or public safety or if the collection is required
under law. Further information about collection of personal information can be found in the GPET Privacy Policy on the
GPET website.
How we use and disclosure your personal information
If your application is successful, your personal information will be used to administer and manage your training for the
duration of the AGPT program.
To enable us to process your application and manage your training, we may need to disclose your personal information
outside GPET. The other entities and agencies we may disclose to are described in Schedule 1 (see page 45) to this
declaration and in the GPET Privacy Policy available on the GPET website.
We may also use and disclose your personal information to undertake quality assurance and other management
processes in relation to the AGPT program and to promote the program to potential applicants.
If your application is not successful, we will destroy or archive personal information you have given us.

To enable applicants to submit their online application, applicants will be required to upload their supporting documents,
some of which are mandatory. A checklist will be available within the online application system, to assist in this process.

Eligibility
The AGPT Selection team uses the program eligibility requirements to determine the eligibility of an applicant.

Citizenship/residency
An AMG must have permanent residency or citizenship of Australia or New Zealand.
Medical qualifications
An AMG must have a recognised primary medical qualification from Australia or New Zealand and must have been either a
permanent resident or citizen of Australia or New Zealand at the commencement of their primary medical degree.
Medical registration
An AMG must have, or expect to hold, general medical registration in Australia by the commencement of the 2015
training year.
AMG interns who currently hold provisional medical registration from the Medical Board of Australia (listed on AHPRA)
must expect to hold general medical registration by the commencement of the 2015 training year.
Pathway eligibility
An AMG may elect to train on either the general or rural pathway provided the AMG had permanent residency or
citizenship of Australia or New Zealand at the commencement of their primary medical qualification.
New Zealand doctors
Doctors who obtained their primary medical qualification at an accredited Australian or New Zealand university;
and were either a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand from the date of commencement of studies for that
qualification are no longer subject to Section 19AB of the Health Insurance Act 1973 and may train on either the general
or rural pathway.

Eligibility
The AGPT Selection team applies the program eligibility requirements to determine the eligibility of an applicant.
Applicants can self-assess their eligibility to join the AGPT program by checking the Program Eligibility Guide AGPT 2015
on page 27 or inside the front cover of this Applicant Guide.
Citizenship/residency
An overseas-trained doctor (OTD) must have either permanent residency or citizenship of Australia or New Zealand by the
closing date of applications (10.00am AEST Friday 9 May 2014).
Medical qualifications
An OTD must have Australian Medical Council (AMC) recognised primary medical qualifications.
Australian Medical Council requirements
An OTD must have successfully completed and passed all the requirements of the AMC prior to 9 May 2014.
This can be done by completing both parts of the AMC examinations or by meeting all requirements of the AMCs
Competent Authority Pathway.
An AMC certificate is mandatory in support of an OTDs application.
An OTD applicant must submit their full academic transcripts (also known as mark sheets) for their primary medical
qualification.
If full academic transcripts are unobtainable, an OTD can submit their EICS* verification, available through the AMC.
Medical registration
An OTD must have, or expect to hold, general medical registration in Australia by the commencement of the 2015
training year.
Pathway eligibility
Section 19AB of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (10-year moratorium), states that Medicare benefits are not payable for
professional services provided by OTDs.
Section 19AB generally applies for a period of 10 years from the time the doctor is first medically registered in Australia,
including provisional or limited registration.
Applicants subject to Section 19AB must nominate the rural pathway in their application.

Applicants must be aware of and discuss their individual visa restrictions with their nominated RTP(s) and agree on training

(SJT). They will also be required to attend a National Assessment Centre (NAC) to undertake the face-to-face Multiple Mini
Interviews (MMIs). Both the National Testing Centres and the National Assessment Centres are held in most capital cities
and some of the large regional centres. Attendance is mandatory.

The online SJT and the face-to-face MMIs are two separate assessments undertaken at two separate locations.

The distribution matrix is a real-time document and is updated in response to preference changes
Shortlisting does not guarantee the offer of a training place.
Taking these variables into account, John will be able to use live data to help determine the likelihood of being
shortlisted to his preferred RTP. John can then change his preferences accordingly, if desired.
As shortlisting is done in order of total AGPT selection score, the highest scoring applicant will be shortlisted first. If an
applicant has nominated an over-subscribed RTP as their first preference, and they have a lower score, then they may not

As there is a possibility applicants may be shortlisted to any of their nominated RTP preferences, applicants should only
nominate RTPs they are willing to relocate for and to undertake their training with.
The ability of an applicant to later transfer to another RTP is not guaranteed and is subject to local RTP policy and
GPET policy.
Applicants should check relevant websites before changing their options.
Information for applicants applying for an exemption from Section 19AB
Applicants applying for an exemption from Section 19AB of the Health Insurance Act 1973 must provide their letter of
exemption to the AGPT Selection team by 10.00am AEST 28 July 2014.
The letter must be provided by this date if the applicant wishes to change their nominated pathway within their RTP
preferences to reflect the exemption. If the letter is not provided by this date there are two options available to applicants:
Continue with the application on the rural pathway and disregard the exemption
Withdraw from the selection process and apply in a subsequent intake (if applicable) with the exemption.
Once shortlisting has been completed amendments to RTP preferences cannot be made.
Please note: Applicants will be shortlisted to only one RTP per intake.
Information for ADF applicants
While GPET will shortlist ADF applicants to their first RTP preference, they still must attend and undertake both
assessments as a part of the selection process.
ADF Applicants must also supply their current or future posting orders. These will confirm their RTP selection and shortlisting.

NOTES
This matrix lists RTPs alphabetically showing the number of applicants, by band, who have nominated as preference 1 a particular regional training
provider (RTP) and training pathway. The matrix can be re-generated to view the latest preference distribution.
Training places are allocated to RTPs for both rural and general pathways. Eligible applicants will be shortlisted for assessment to RTPs based on
their National Assessment score, their RTP preferences and the availability of shortlist places.
The process follows the merit principal. Applicants will be shortlisted in score order, highest first. Consequently, higher scoring applicants are
more likely to be shortlisted to their first preference than a lower scoring applicant. Please note: Applicants are shortlisted to RTPs based on their
individual score, not by band.
2013 Training places: The number of available training places in the Regional Training Provider for commencement of training in 2013.

Applicants are encouraged to check the distribution matrix regularly and to consider that there may be others in a higher
band who have nominated a lower ranking applicants first preference as their second, third or fourth. In this scenario,
those applicants with higher scores/bands will be considered first.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Applicants who have previously applied to the AGPT program who were shortlisted to the same RTP twice (either in
the same year or separate consecutive years), and were not offered a training place on either occasion are unable to
nominate that specific RTP again without the RTPs written consent.

Applicants will not be able to change their preferences outside these dates and times.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
The RTP preference distribution matrix is a live document; it will constantly change as each applicant nominates their
preferred RTP on the rural or general pathway during the allocated period.
Shortlisting
GPET will shortlist applicants on 30 July 2014.
Shortlisting will be based on an individuals total AGPT selection score, noting that the shortlisting of joint applications will
be based on the lowest score of the joint applicants.
Applicants will be notified of their shortlisting status by email.
Shortlisting does not guarantee a training place.

Below are two examples which will assist applicants to understand the shortlisting process.
Example 1
Jane Citizen has been shortlisted to Beyond Medical Education (BME) on the rural pathway. She has been contacted
to arrange an appointment time for a phone interview with BME.
After attending the interview, BME sends an email informing Jane that unfortunately she has not been successful in
gaining a training position with BME. Jane then contacts the AGPT Selection team to discuss whether her second
preference will be considered.
Answer:
In this situation, shortlisting to BME has not resulted in a placement and Janes second, third or fourth RTP
preferences will not be considered. Second, third and fourth preferences are only taken into consideration prior to
shortlisting.
Please note: Applicants are only shortlisted to one RTP per intake.
Example 2
Joe Smith has chosen to train with Adelaide to Outback GP Training on the general pathway as his first preference. As
his second preference, Joe has again selected to train with Adelaide to Outback GP Training but this time on the rural
pathway.
Based on his ranking band (and total AGPT Selection score) it seems Joe may be shortlisted to his second preference
i.e. Adelaide to Outback GP Training on the rural pathway. As Joe has not been shortlisted to his first preference, he
has contacted the AGPT Selection team to discuss whether it is a possibility to get consideration for both pathways as
it is the same RTP.
Answer:
Even though Joe has chosen the same RTP for his first and second preference he needs to keep in mind that his RTP
preferences have been selected on different pathways.
Applicants are shortlisted via pathway first, then RTP. Each nominated preference is treated separately.
Therefore Joe will only be considered for the rural pathway.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Applicants are only shortlisted to one RTP per intake.
Preferences are only taken into consideration for shortlisting.
If an applicant is unsuccessful in obtaining a shortlist position to one of their nominated RTPs, then their application
will not progress any further.
If an applicant is successful in being shortlisted to an RTP, but does not gain a training place, then their application will
not progress any further.
Once shortlisting has commenced, RTP preferences cannot be altered.

When an applicant is shortlisted, the RTP involved will examine the application and the applicants total AGPT selection score.
The RTP may hold further placement assessments, which will take place from 1-17 August 2014.
RTP (stage 3) placement assessments vary between providers, but may include:
Applicants are encouraged to contact their preferred RTP to discuss the types of (stage 3) placement assessments they
are likely to be required for and availability during the period from 1-17 August 2014.
Shortlisting does not guarantee an interview or training place.
Once RTP placement assessments have concluded, applicants will be offered either a training place, or notified that they
have not been successful in gaining a training place with their shortlisted RTP.
Applicants who are successful in obtaining a training place must either accept or decline the offer within seven days of
receiving the offer.
Applicants who are not successful in gaining a training place, or who have declined an offer of a training place are able to
apply in 2015 for the 2016 AGPT program.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Any requests for feedback in regards to the RTP placement assessment process should be
directed to the individual RTP, not the AGPT Selection team, as this part of the selection process (stage 3) is directly
managed by the RTPs.

Final Outcomes
Applicants who are shortlisted will be notified by the RTP as to the outcome of their application prior to the end of
August 2014.
Applicants who are successful in obtaining a training place must either accept or decline the offer within seven days of
receiving the offer.
Successful applicants should remain in contact with their RTP in relation to the next stages prior to commencing training
in 2015.
If an applicant chooses to decline an offer of a training place, then their decision will be final.
Once an applicant has declined a training position they cannot be reconsidered for the same RTP within the same intake.
Applicants who are not successful at gaining a training place, or who have declined an offer of a training place, are able to
apply in 2015 for the 2016 AGPT program.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Applicants who are successful in obtaining a training place must either accept or decline the
offer within seven days of receiving the offer.
Future Intakes
Applicants are welcome to apply again in 2015 for the 2016 AGPT program.
Applicants will need to obtain a new applicant ID; complete a new application form; submit new supporting documents; and
sit another online SJT and attend another MMI.
The AGPT Selection team recommends applicants contact the RTP and discuss their situation if they have previously been
unsuccessful in obtaining a training place with that RTP.
