Each of these may threaten to end the journey
or change its path. These trials usually prepare the
hero for a supreme ordeal, which may or may not
end with the hero gaining the knowledge or object
he or she is seeking.

The Supreme Ordeal The hero undergoes a

transformation, or change, which can take many
forms and affects the actions and decisions the
hero makes. The hero overcomes the supreme
ordeal, usually the climax of the story, and often
gains the knowledge or object he or she sought.
