Nuclear Fission

What is Nucleur Fission?
Nuclear fission is the process of splitting a nucleus into
different parts.
Two isotopes are commonly used in this process; these two
isotopes are called uranium-235 and plutonium-239.
When nuclear fission occurs, the nucleus splits into two smaller
nuclei which are radioactive.
2 or 3 more neutrons are released, hence giving out energy.
These neutrons hit other nuclei causing them to split too. This
is called a chain reaction
Where are Nucleur power
stations in the UK?
Pro’s and cons of Nucleur
power.
Advantages
Nuclear power is efficient and reliable. Power plants can
produce significant quantities of power and it is unlikely that
we will get any power cuts. The supply at the moment is
thriving.

Disadvantages
Power plants produce radioactive substances which is
harmful for us and the climate. Nucleur power can be
dangerous in the wrong hands. E.g, terrorists use these
weapons to destroy large areas.
The cost of nuclear power is staggering.
