1937 when Hemingway is
dispatched to Spain. However, in
Hemingways account, he focuses
on the occasion of the actual front
where bombshells are nearby and
death is not something that is
taboo. He also meets a severely
wounded man that he shares a
connection with.

Audience: The audience could be those


who are interested in the happenings of
the war. This could be veterans or military
men themselves.

Subject: The subject is blatantly


shown as war, but in a deeper
message, it is about the
characteristics of war and how it
affects others and ones
perception.

Purpose: The purpose of the text


may be to illustrate the mood and
character of the war, of how it is a
strange new kind of war where you
learn just as much as you are to
believe. This means that there are
multiple facets to this fight and it is up
to the reader to decide what the
believe.
