Purpose

As a news reporter, his audience would be the public.


His whole purpose for being at the Hotel Florida in
Madrid was to cover the Spanish Civil War.
However, this can also relate to the soldiers who had
been injured in the war.
The purpose of this passage is to convey to the
audience the heartache of the war.
While journalists are supposed to write in objective
tense, Hemingway uses subjective to engage the
reader and help them experience the journey with
him.
He often uses you to help you visualize the
situation, as if you were in it.

The subject of this passage is in regards to the


outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
