MY GRANDMOTHERS TRIP

My grandparents Antonia and Luis, have lived since 1975 in a colony of Playa
Vicente municipality in Veracruz. Although, it was not planned that this place
became their home because in the beginning they used to go only on vacation
time.
My grandmother tells me she came to the area
for the first time in 1960, just accompanied by
her parents Manuel and Nina, with the sole
intention of some distant vacation. In that year
they used to live in Mexico, where their journey
began. They boarded a bus at the bus station
which led them to Veracruz City. Sometimes,
the bus went out at night and they arrived until
the next morning, where they breakfasted
mondongo.
In order to continue, they boarded another bus
to Acayucan and changed their route to a town
named Juanita. Then, should wait for a
transport, my grandmother says that Don Rulfo
was who usually take them. They arrived to
the mill where they had to choose if spent the
night there in case it was too late or continued

to the place where initially their first house was.
My grandmother Antonia remembers her parents used to have cows, goats and
pigs. During the time they spent there they were responsible of feeding and caring
the animals or cure them if get sick. They also had rides around as her dad used o
like. Just for a few days later, get back to the city, all along the same road.
