any questions during the rest
of class please feel free to
ask.

If a skill/skills are being
performed incorrectly, I will
stop the practice quickly and
go over the specific cues
needed in order to perform the
skill correctly.

Team
Application
Task
-Catch and
throw relay

15-20
minutes

The two teams

will separate
into their spots
on the field.
There will be
two catchers at
home plate,
two cutoff
men, and one
fly ball thrower.
The rest of the
team will line
up in the
outfield at a
designated
spot set by the
teacher.

-Okay, so the purpose of

todays application task is to
utilize three different skills.
These are catching a fly ball,
throwing to a target, and
catching a relay throw. Each
team will have two catchers at
home, two relay catchers, and
one fly ball thrower. The rest of
the players will line up at the
designated outfield spot and
rotate every play.

Students will score at least a

4 out of 5 on the application
task.
This works in the way that
first place earns 5 points,
second earns 4.

During the first two minutes,

you will need to catch the ball
in the air tossed by the
thrower, throw the ball to the
cutoff man, and the cutoff man
throw to the home catcher.
You will be given one point for
a catch and throw and one
more point for the second
catch and throw. All catches
and throws have to be in the
air and clean without touching
the ground. The statistic
keeper will not engage in the
game, but will keep track of
every point.
At the two minutes mark
(signaled by the teacher), The
relay catchers will be removed
from the game. The outfielders
will now have to do or die
throw to the home catcher
without it hitting the ground.
With a clean catch and throw
home, you will receive three
points. The team with the most
points at the end of 4 minutes
will win the daily application
task.

students pick
up and return
all equipment.

further practicing these skills,

you will be in a good team
position come game play time.
-Go over team point leaders
-Remember, next class you
will record a video of one of
your teammates performing a
skill incorrectly. You will have
to remember some of the
critical elements I went over
today in class for the bonus on
the quiz Friday. Also,
remember to read up on the
information we sent you for
your quiz.

Contingency Plan:
-Class will be cancelled or moved to an available indoor facility weather permitting.
-Equipment will be easily accessible from the CPASS building equipment closet. An order of
equipment will be placed prior to the day of class to ensure it is ready.
-If the students are late, I can decrease the time of the fitness routine and/or practice to ensure the
application task is completed. Also, if there was suppose to be a quiz, I can move it to the next class
period.
-If there is a lack of equipment, I can easily walk to the equipment closet and check more out for
class.

Reflection:
In my first lesson, I was able to implement the basic critical elements of both fielding a ground ball
and pop fly and also throwing. The two tams were able to go through the fitness routine and the skill
builders smoothly, but had a little confusion when it came to the application task practice. The
application task was designed to practice and compete by catching pop flies in the outfield and

hitting different distance targets. There were a few moving parts that were confusing and I could
have explained the rules a little better. Through the practice, I had to bend a few rules. Everything
that looks good on paper never pans out to be as good in the actual class. I believe my first class
went very smoothly, but the difficulty of directions towards the application task could have been
better. Next time, I can send out the application task rules before class so that all of the students can
see what will be happening in class and email me questions prior to the actual task.
