Our Aviation Tech students have been soaring high this semester and now they
are making their final approach for a smooth landing and a well-deserved summer
break! Guest instructor pilots from Aero Maintenance at Pearson Field have been
in class this week helping to administer our final exams which include a simulator
training flight proceeded by an actual pre-flight inspection on our Cessna 172,
weight and balance calculations, navigation planning and real world weather analysis. So far the students have received strong reviews on the oral and practical
assessments and are gearing up for their final knowledge exam which will consist
of the FAA private pilot pre-test. Students who score an 80% or higher on the
exam will receive a Private Pilot Ground School Completion Certificate and will
earn the associated college credits at Green River College. Also, all students who
scored a B and above during the first semester are also eligible to receive college
credits for the Aviation History and Careers class.
Although over 30 of our students have signed up for the second year aviation tech
program, we are sad to say goodbye to the following graduating seniors who are
off to pursue their Aviation Dreams!
Nick Murray was awarded a $2,500 dollar scholarship from the Northwest Antique Aircraft Club (NWAAC)
to solo in an aircraft and he is well on his way to achieving that goal. He will be joining the Marine Corps as
a Helicopter Mechanic with the goal of becoming an Aerospace Engineer with help from the post 9-11 GI
Bill, which will pay for his college education after he finishes his time in the service.
Oksana Mishchenya earned the $1,000.00 Skills Center General Advisory Committee Scholarship for Aviation education and training sponsored by Lifeport.
She plans to enroll in the outstanding Aviation program at Portland Community
College in the fall and intends to take flight lessons this summer!
Vitaly Klets also won a $1,000.00 Aviation Tech Scholarship sponsored by Lifeport and plans to use it take his
FAA written test and begin flight lessons this summer.
He has already indicated that he wants to volunteer
with our program next year while he pursues his private, commercial and instructor pilot ratings here in the
local area!
Finally, Jacob Johnston set the bar high today by scoring a 98% on his final exam, which will serve as his Private
Pilot Knowledge pretest. I was honored today to sign him (along with Nick Murray) off to take their FAA exam and
Im certain Ill be approving many more of our students to do the same in the next few days! Jacob will attend Central Washington University on a great Scholarship that he earned for academic achievement! He intends to major
in one of their outstanding Aviation Degree programs and pursue a career as a commercial pilot!

him soon but he has informed me that he intends
to build an experimental aircraft, work on engineering model rockets and continue to develop
our students as budding aviators on our amazing
simulators!
Thanks for all your support this
year!!!
