PARTIALLY HYDROLYZED POLYACRYLAMIDE (PHPA)

PHPA are long chain high molecular weight water soluble polymers.
It functions as viscosifying agent, shale and bore-hole stabilizer,
encapsulator, bentonite extender, flocculation agent and assist with
fluid loss control.
As a shale-control mud, PHPA is believed to seal microfractures and
coat shale surfaces with a film that retards dispersion and
disintegration
Typically polymers or PHPAs are used on their own or in conjunction
with bentonite, as extenders, increasing the drilling fluid viscosity
thereby resulting in improvements in the removal of cuttings, better
control of fluid densities and lubrication of the drill bit.

WHY PHPA IN EMULSION FORM ?

EASE IN USE
Emulsion PHPA is water in oil emulsion wherein the PHPA molecule is
already dissolved in water which is encapsulated by oil. When the product
is mixed in water these molecules are released. As these molecules are
already hydrated it takes no time to develop viscosity. Hence, the product
gives optimum usability and results in no time.
While powder PHPA takes longer time to go into water and develop
viscosity. Therefore, powder PHPA is required to be added very slowly in
water. There are always chances of fish eye or lumps development in the
solution due to incomplete mixing and hydration of PHPA molecules.

USER HEALTH & SAFETY

Powder products tend to spread in air at the time of solution preparation.
Fine powder particles get deposited on the person involved in
solution preparation and in the area of solution preparation. There is
absolutely no chance of such spread in case of emulsion products.
