The Asian Pacific Health Foundation
Whereas, chronic viral hepatitis is a condition that affects the lives of millions of everyday Americans, and is a leading cause of liver cancer and liver transplants; and Whereas, Asian-Americans account for over fifty percent of those living with Hepatitis B, even though they make up only five percent of our population; and Whereas, people ages fifty through seventy are at an increased risk for hepatitis infection compared to the general population, and should all be tested for it; and Whereas, even though both hepatitis A and B are vaccine-preventable, many at-risk communities lack the adequate medical resources to prevent both diseases because of unawareness and language-barriers; and Whereas, the Asian Pacific Health Center, a non-profit organization, has worked for nearly fifteen years to provide health screenings and health education to underserved populations in San Diego, and has screened thousands of people; and Whereas, the Asian Pacific Health Center has partnered with many notable organizations, like the National Task Force for Hepatitis B, the UCSD School of Pharmacy, and the Vietnamese Physicians Association, among many others, to provide hepatitis education, screening, and treatment to San Diegans; and Whereas, the Asian Pacific Health Center has provided invaluable services by working with the health community and local volunteers to promote the prevention, diagnoses, and treatment of hepatitis and improve the lives of those affected; Now therefore, be it resolved that the Asian Pacific Health Center be honored on behalf of the constituents of the 52nd Congressional District of the State of California on this day, the 17th of May, 2015, for their exceptional efforts to recognize the importance of hepatitis prevention, education, screening, and treatment.
