The book I read this quarter was called If I Stay by Gayle Forman. The genre of this
book is fiction. This book is about a girl named Mia who was critically injured in a car accident.
Mia lost her parents and little brother as a result of this horrific incident being left an orphan and
only child. As the only survivor of the car accident, Mia fights for her life and spends time in a
coma. Her grandfather enters the room she is in and speaks to her and assures her that the
decision to hold on and fight or to let go and be with her family was completely up to her.
Through out the book, Mia has flashbacks of her life and brought back old memories to help her
decide whether she wanted to stay or die.
The characters in this novel do feel very real. Although this wasnt based on a true story,
the way each one was portrayed and the way their emotions were described it made it seem as if
they were actually real and the story was based on something real. The book was well written
and emotional. I would definitely recommend this novel everyone. This book was written in a
way where any person, boy or girl, can read. If I Stay shows readers the importance of the people
around you and, teaches the readers not to take things for granted.
