The book Unbreakable by Rebecca Shea is a realistic fiction novel that tells the story of
Jessica Harper or Jess. This book takes readers through the highs and lows of Jess high
school life, up until her first year of college. Over the years Jess is struggling with the
relationship she has with her father, who is Chief of the local fire department and the absence of
her mother. Because her father works long hours all night and day, Jess basically lives across the
street at her neighbor's house who has watched her since her mother died. While living there she
became best friends with her neighbors daughter Ava and began to crush on her friends older
brother Gabe. As Jess grows older she begins to evaluate her life at the time and began to dream
of what she wanted her life to be like. She and Gabe begin a relationship in her senior year of
highschool. Gabe, being a year ahead of Jess in school fails to keep up with their relationship
which brings a complicated matter into jess life. From there her whole world becomes a
downward spiral.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is into a series of drama and romance. This
book creates moment in each character's life that is easily relatable to its teenage readers. It also
provides conflicts and humorous drama to keep the reader hooked to the book.
