It has started ladies and
gentlemen, the Fraser
Canyon Gold Rush. Word of
gold along the Thompson
river has reached the ears of
many men, mainly miners
from San Francisco. If you
have not staked a claim yet
gentlemen, get to it because
there is not much time left!

Word has reached us that
prospectors in Washington
and Oregon have began
moving up north to our very
own Thompson and Fraser
River. Since the fur trader for

From San Francisco alone,
450 unemployed miners have
arrived at Fort Victoria on
April 25, by Hudson Bay
Companys steamship the
beaver (see page 10 )which
is transporting the miners.
The 450 miners arrived in
Fort Victoria and are now
using anything they can to
transport themselves and
their gear to the mainland

By the end of this
summer, there is an
estimated 10,000 men
coming to our colonies to
stake claims along the fraser
canyon. These men will most
likely be Americans. Fort
Langley get ready for this,
hotels will be filled to the
brim, transportation systems
all in use and stores sold out.
Gentlemen keep a close eye
on your ladies. Governor
Douglas is fearing for even
more miners to arrive within
the year. Men if you have not
started panning get to it!

on the Thompson river last
summer, more men have
started panning and have
discovered gold in the sand
bars of both the Thompson
and Fraser Rivers. (For more
on this story see page 8)

transportation systems
include boats, canoes and
even homemade rafts. It is
suggested that if anyone
owns a boat to start taxing
miners or rent the boat out.
