shown in fig. determine distance a in m and corresponding wg in KN/m.
3. What are the equilibrium conditions that are to be satisfied for a rigid body
4.

Distinguish between centre of gravity and centroid.
State the methods of determining the centre of gravity.
Define mass moment of inertia.
Explain about polar moment of inertia.
Define radius of gyration with respect to x-axis of an area.

9. Define perpendicular axis theorem.

10. Find the moment of inertia of rectangle about the centroidal x and y-axes.
PART B

ANSWER ANY THREE QUESTIONS

1.

Determine the support reactions for beam AD analytically. Neglect self weight of
beam.

2. Find the force exerted at roller B and components of force exerted on hinge A for
beam AC shown in figure.

3. Determine the moment of inertia of the section shown in figure about an axis
passing through the centroid and parallel to the top most fibre of the section.
Also determine moment of inertia about the axis of symmetry. Hence find out
radii of gyration.

4. For the Z-section shown in figure. The moment of inertia with respect to x and yaxes are given as Ix=1548 cm4 and Iy= 2668 cm4. Determine the principal axis of
the section about O (centroid of vertical section and point O coincides) and the
values of principal moments of inertia. All the dimensions are in cm.
