offspring from a kind of fish called Angel Scalar. The first step from our experiment is that the female fish is that she lay the eggs in a certain place she consider is the best one for them, for example where its warmer but they usually leave them on a plant. As aquarium fish inbreeding is a problem with this fish. In nature this cichlid is as strong as most other of its weight, but strong individuals are very rare to find in today's aquarium trade. Hence P.scalare shall not be kept together with other South American cichlids. If the water isn't "hard" (max. 10 dGH, pH-level matter less for breeding, but should always be between 6.0 and 7.5), this fish play very easily after a rising of temperature from 28 to 30C , but eggs may rot and their fry are extremely sensitive for water changes of all kind during several weeks. If eggs are laid in a separate tank, many may survive if part of the water is changed daily but very slow. Filling a 100-litre tank with 10 - 15 litres every day, but the new water must be added during an hour or longer. Check pH of tap water, around 8 is all right. Now that she has laid the eggs the mother will make some movements with the fins to generate oxygen, if not fungi will appear and kill the rest of the eggs, she will also take care of the nest but she wont eat until their offspring learn to swim while the father will eat to be stronger because he will also protect the nest. After three days of laying the eggs they will transform into Alevines that will feed themselves with their own viteline sack for one week.
After seven days the Alevines will learn to swim and
besides exploring their environment, they will search for food. This is the part when we give them the food; the most recommended food for them is some flakes called Tetra Min or Artemia. Once we separate the half of them we will give one half the flakes and the other half the Artemia. When reach their month of being born we will measure which half is healthier, we will measure the colour if one half has more colour in their skin is that they are healthier because it has more nutrients.
This is how we expect our Alevines will grow in one
month if they get the correct food and if they are in good conditions.
