Hugh Doston Carberry was a Jamaican poet, lawyer, and civil servant. He was born in 1921 in Jamaica, the son of a former Chief Justice. Carberry was educated in Jamaica and England, studying law at Oxford University and the Middle Temple. In addition to his legal career, Carberry was a poet who served on the managing committee of the Little Theatre. He also worked as a clerk to the Houses of Parliament and died in 1989.
