SCHOOL COUNCIL POLICY


Discipline & Classroom Management

POLICY STATEMENT

The faculty and principal shall implement the local school district code of
acceptable student behavior and discipline. Copies of the local district
code shall be distributed to all staff prior to the beginning of each school
year, and to all parents upon enrollment of their child each year. The
school council shall automatically adopt any subsequent amendments to
the code by the local board of education.

CODE OF CONDUCT
I will treat everyone with courtesy and respect.
I will show respect toward school and personal property.
I will create a positive and safe learning environment.
I will come to school prepared for learning.
I will accept responsibility for my actions.

Teachers with the input of his/her class will develop a list of classroom
expectations, rewards, and consequences. This is to be accomplished the
first week of school. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People will be
incorporated. The list will be revisited for possible revision at the beginning
of the 3rd 9 weeks.
K-3 Homeroom teachers will use a class behavior program (clipping down
and up system, etc.)
4-5 homeroom teachers will use a class behavior tracking sheet to keep
account of behavior.
Tracking sheets will be filed by the teacher and kept for duration of
one school year.
The behavior system will be communicated with parents.

For more severe or repeated offenses the consequences are as follows:


Step 1 Guidance counselor/principal referral- conference with
student
Step 2 Principal referral lunch detention (under supervision of
principal, guidance counselor or APC)
Step 3 Principal referral after school detention (under supervision
of principal, guidance counselor or APC)
Step 4 Principal referral suspension
It is at the discretion of the principal to use his/her best judgment to decide
the severity of the offense and to what step the consequence will be
applied.
Examples of repeated/severe offenses:
Primary students Clipping down to the bottom of the behavior charts 3
times in one week.
Intermediate students- 5 codes in one week.
Physical acts of aggression such as fighting
Verbal language -using profanity
Endangering others and/or self
Bus referrals
Any changes made in this process will be sent to the council for approval.
