Cell Phones Use While Driving: Is it acceptable or should it be banned.

Communication is necessary thing today and become social need, but sometimes people
use it over the limit. Nowadays we can easily meet some people use their cell phone while
driving, either they drive with motorcycle or drive by car. Use of cell phones while driving
becomes a familiar thing in the roadway, especially when people waiting at traffic lights. Use of
cell phones while driving is a dangerous thing, but some people argue that they need to reply
their message quickly even though it can threaten their safety. What should government do to
overcome the use of cell phones while driving? Is it acceptable or should it be banned?
Some people argue that the use of cell phones while driving is something usual, and most
of them believe that it is their personal right. They convince that there are several benefits using
cell phones while driving. First, diminishing the tendency to speed, when driver running late,
she/he may have a tendency to speed in order to reach the destination quickly, but a call from a
cellular phone by the driver can notify colleagues of late arrival and it can prevent the drivers
urge to speed. A second benefit is increased productivity and efficiency, in business, time is
money, use the phone while driving can generate revenue and allow employees to seize
opportunities in a competitive environment. There are several reasons actually from a driver that
agree about using a cell phone while driving, but we can guess that the reason is just for them,
such as the benefit, they just think about their benefit without considering other drivers human
right. So, we can conclude that people agreed with cell phones while driving is because they
have a lot of business, they has communication needs, so they use their cell phones while
driving, and most of them argue that they just use their cell phone in several conditions such as
traffic jam and while waiting in traffic light.
Other people disagree with cell phones use because of safety. They have several reasons
for it. First, while driver use cell phones while driving, she/he may have care less about
him/herself safety because she/he have another focus to cell phones, it can be dangerous for
him/her. Second, the use of cell phones while driving would produce an increase in the overall
number of motor vehicle collisions, injuries, and fatalities. Sembiring (2013) stated that traffic
accident in Indonesia from 2009-2010 was increased 1200 percent, he also suggests the driver to
reduce cell phone use while driving, if the driver wants to use their cell phones, it is better to stop
the vehicle first. Therefore, it is very dangerous to use cell phones while driving.
In fact, people that use cell phones while driving argue that it is safe if the driver can pay
attention while driving. Otherwise, we can meet several traffic accidents, and most of them
caused by cell phone use. So, as a writer, I suggest that the police affirm their policy about cell
phone use while driving, and I suggest cell phone use must be banned because it is dangerous
and can threaten driver safety.
