Upgrade from 8.6
This quick start includes the following topics:

Step 1. Complete the Pre-Installation Tasks


1.1 Verify prerequisites. Review the installation prerequisites and verify that the environment meets the
requirements. Verify the license key, minimum system requirements, temporary disk space requirements,
database requirements, and third-party software prerequisites.
Use the following table to record the license key.

1.2 Configure environment variables. Configure environment variables for temporary files, code pages, and the
graphics display server.

1.3 Clear environment variables. Clear environment variables configured for the previous PowerCenter
installation.

1.4 Create a keystore for HTTPS support (Optional). Create a keystore file to use a secure connection with
HTTPS.
Use the following table to record HTTPS information:

1.5 Stop Informatica Services. Stop Informatica Services on each node in the PowerCenter domain.

Step 2. Upgrade PowerCenter


2.1 Upgrade PowerCenter. Run the installer to upgrade PowerCenter. Select the option to upgrade the node to
run a single version or multiple versions of the application services. If you upgrade the node to run multiple
versions of the application services, you must upgrade to a new directory.
Use the following table to record the installation directory.

Step 3. Complete the Post-Installation Tasks


3.1 Prepare Metadata Manager for upgrade. Back up the Metadata Manager repository database.
3.2 Configure environment variables. Configure environment variables for PowerCenter Services, database
client, library path, locale, Java components, and libstdc++.so.5.

3.3 Configure the location of the run-time files (Optional). If you upgraded to a different installation
directory, update the service process variable for run-time files, the repository backup directory, and the
location of the keystore file.
3.4 Make POSIX Asynchronous I/O available (Optional). If you install PowerCenter Services on IBM AIX,
make POSIX Asynchronous I/O available on any node where you want to run an Integration Service.

Step 4. Upgrade PowerCenter Components


4.1 Upgrade the Reference Table Manager Service. Upgrade the contents of the Reference Table Manager
repository to encrypt the user account passwords for the Reference Table Manager connections.

Step 5. Upgrade Metadata Manager


5.1 Upgrade the Metadata Manager repository. Upgrade the contents of the Metadata Manager repository and
restore the Metadata Manager Service files.
5.2 Restore the Metadata Manager Service files. Restore the files required by the Metadata Manager Service.
5.3 Enable the Metadata Manager Service. After you enable the Metadata Manager Service, you can perform
the post-upgrade tasks.

Step 6. Complete the Post-Upgrade Tasks


6.1 Verify the upgrade of the first gateway node. Perform this task if you upgrade to a mixed version domain.
After you upgrade the first gateway node, verify that the upgrade was successful before you upgrade the other
nodes in the domain.
6.2 Update plug-ins. Update the repository with the latest plug-in registration files.
6.3 Download and install the Metadata Manager Agent. In the Metadata Manager application, download and
install the Metadata Manager Agent.
6.4 Update the configuration of the PowerCenter resources. In the Metadata Manager application, open and
save the connection settings of the PowerCenter resources before you load the resources.
6.5 Update the Metadata Manager index files. In the Metadata Manager application, select and index all
Metadata Manager resources.

Step 7. Upgrade the PowerCenter Client


7.1 Upgrade the PowerCenter Client. Run the installer to upgrade the PowerCenter Client. For more
information, see the PowerCenter Installation Guide.
