Observations:
Preparation and Planning
I can statements posted on whiteboard capturing learning targets (Excellent!)
Explicitly referenced learning targets (verbal and visual - blue handout)
Stated, Thats going to be our goal today.Wednesday we are going
to.Important not to check out.content on SAT.
Homework answers posted on screen using document camera
Suggestion: Presented a lot of important and relevant information -- slow down a bit to
allow time for students to digest
Think about: How to check for understanding (May want to ask, whats our goal today?
or When you get home tonight and cant remember_____, where do you find the
information?

Classroom Environment
Called upon and interacted with students by name
Circulated throughout room at individual desks
Friendly and upbeat class environment
Asked for students attention when began to see off task
Conducive to learning
Instruction
Asked open ended questions to guide students to reflect on their learning: What
surprised you?
Offered suggestions to address common errors: Be careful when you
Transitioned from goal of class period and Check for understanding activity
Students asked to stand up and hand check for understanding to peer to correct.
Explained not judgement, but for learning tool (solid reminder for students!)
Verbally and visually (using handout projected on screen) asked questions, emphasizing
key words, inside the circle (students volunteered responses and they were randomly
called upon)
Framework for Professional Practice and Teacher Evaluation Process

Suggestion: Write answers for students as they correct, so can visually see correct
response (much of the Check for Understanding was done verbally, ie: provide multiple
ways for students to access information)
Discussed key vocabulary
Suggestion: may be helpful to write definition on whiteboard to visually reinforce
Smooth transition from check for understanding to homework check
Evidence of routine established, i.e: students readily checked answers and noted (by
raising hand) which questions they would like to revisit
Utilized technology (tablet) to review student questions (student led) and asked probing
questions such as How do we do this?...What do we know, Gabby?
Yes.no.shake your head - formative assessment, but not all students participated.
Think About: How ensure all are actively engaged and thinking?
