Cue Video: If you smell what the rock is cooking (:12)
Host:
Ok, I think im going to have to be clearer about this. Im not talking about Rock and Roll,
and Im not talking about some wrestling guy.
Im talking about God--THE Rock and Salvation!
Take a look at our key verse today:
Cue Key Verse: He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be
shaken. Psalm 62:2
Host Cont:
See therethe He in that verse is God. If we build our foundation on God, and His
Word, we wont be shaken even in times of trouble.
Host 2:
Oh wownow I feel silly. I didnt realize that you meant God when you said the keyword
this week was Rock.
Host:
Yes, I think we have established that.
(Smiling, hand on host 2s shoulder)
Host 2:
Right. Socan you explain this to me a little more? Like what did you mean about
building our foundation?? Im not sure I understand that word.
Host:
Well foundation is like a base.
Cue Slide: Cheerleader Pyramid
The cheerleader thats up on top of that pyramid is called a flyer.
Host 2:
That looks pretty scary! I would be afraid I might fall!
Host:
Thats where the foundation comes in. See the girls at the bottom- they are called bases.
They are bigger than the flyer and are very strong. They get together to form a strong
foundation to support the flyer so she doesnt fall.
Host 2:
Who knew cheerleading could be useful in church?
Host:
Now look at this picture of a house.

Cue Slide: Foundation of house

Host 2:
Wait- theres no house there- just some like concrete or something??
Host:
That concrete is very strong and hard like a-Host 2:
Like a ROCK!!!!
Host:
Exactly! And before you can build a house, you have to have a strong foundation, or a
base. This makes the house stable and steady so it doesnt sink.
Let me show you what I mean:
Cue Object Lesson: House on Sand and Rock
Have two clear plastic tubs on a table in the front. Fill one with sand, and place a brick or
large flat rock in the other. Build a house out of legos or linkinlogs and place it on the
sand. Now pour a pitcher of water on the house and explain to the children that the
house has moved because the sand wasnt a firm foundation. Now move the house to
the rock and pour a second pitcher of water out on it.
Host 2:
Heythis time the house didnt move!
Host:
Right, because of this ROCK! It is strong and made a steady, firm foundation for our
house.
Host 2:
This house and the sand and rock are starting to sound very familiar!!
Host:
Thats because its what we are learning about in BF class today!
Host 2:
Oh! Good! I can understand that! ButIm still having a little trouble understanding how
God fits into this whole thing.
Host:
Think of the house as a person. And the sand is like the world. The water represents the
hard times in our life. Now, if we listen to the world when hard times come, they might
say we can fix our problems with money or things. The ways of the world are always
changingthey are not steady, and if you follow the world you will be shaken or moved
just like the house that got washed away when it was on the sand.
On the other hand, just like this rock was a firm foundation
Host 2:
Dont tell meI think ive got it! The firm foundation is like Gods Word. The Bible is truth
that never changes. And God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. When the

hard times come, we can get wisdom from His unchanging Word, and He will keep us
steady. God isTHE ROCK!!!
Host:
You finally have the right Rock!!! Way to go my friend! NOW YOU ROCK!!
Host 2:
NoGod rocks!!
(High five with host)
Host:
Why dont we stand now and worship Him!
