The Changing World of Work
Read the article. Choose the correct answer.
Are you looking for a job? For how many years do you want to keep
it? These days, college is very expensive. After you study many
years, you don't want to learn that there is no job available for you.
That's why it's important to think about how jobs are changing. Just
twenty years ago, many people had good jobs as telephone operators.
But a lot of people lost those jobs when computers started doing
most of that work. Computers are changing all the time, and even
computer specialists need to follow the changes, or they can lose
their jobs, too. In the future, computers might take the jobs of some
teachers. Students might learn from computers instead. The jobs of
letter carriers may not be safe, either. If people decide to use only email, letter carriers will need to find other work. Some jobs are
protected from computers taking them away. Can a computer take
the job of a police officer, a journalist, a firefighter, a carpenter, an
electrician, or a plumber? Probably not at least not in the near
future. And, if a computer can't do a job, we will always have people
to do it!

Sandwich Choices
Read the Web site. Choose the correct answer.
Are you eating too many fast-food sandwiches? Are you looking for something a little different for your next sandwich? Here are a few
suggestions. Begin with Bread Buy the best fresh bread you can find. You can buy a loaf of bread and put half of it in the freezer. And try different
kinds of breads from different countries French baguettes, Indian naan, Mexican tortillas. Are you allergic to wheat? Try one of the delicious
rice breads now available in stores. There's a kind of bread for everyone! Try Different Proteins Fish, meat, and cheese are full of protein. The next
time you go to the store, pick up some smoked fish, barbecued beef, or a pound of boiled shrimp. There are too many wonderful cheeses to list
here but add a few slices of fresh cheese to your next sandwich. You'll love it! Add Fruit and Vegetables A few vegetables always taste good on
a sandwich. Try adding some grilled, roasted, or pickled vegetables, such as grilled onions or roasted peppers. Amazingly, many fruits are also
delicious on sandwiches. Try apples, mangoes, and pineapple. They really are great with some cheeses and some meats! Mayonnaise and More
Finally, add a little fat but not too much! A little mayonnaise with roasted garlic, a special mango sauce, or a spicy mustard are all good
choices.
Brotherly Advice
Read the letter. Choose the correct answer.
Dear Harry,
Thank you for your last letter. I know college life can be difficult. I've done a lot of thinking about the problems you are having, and what you
might want to do about them. First, let me say that most people don't have to manage their lives until they go to college. It's not easy to balance
work and play to study, make some money, and make an effort to see friends. For the first time in your life, Harry, you're going to have to make
a schedule. It's sad, but it's true! Every week, you ought to make a list of all your deadlines for school and work. Make sure you meet your
deadlines each day before you go to a club or go to the movies. You don't have to make excuses to your friends just say you'd better study and
do all of your work first. And you'd better not go out with friends when you have to get up early the next day. I know you'd rather hang out with
your friends, but you've got to take school and work seriously. Remember: You don't have to do everything you just have to do your best. OK
I've got to run. I'll write again later. Take care!
Your brother,
Josh
