NATIONAL OHV GROUP SUPPORTS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MONUMENT
POCATELLO, ID (July 10, 2015) - The Blue Ribbon Coalition (BRC), a national trail based
recreation group, supports President Obamas designation today of the Berryessa Snow
Mountain Region as a National Monument.
BRC has worked in partnership with Tuleyome, a regional conservation group based in
Woodland, California, Congressman Mike Thompson, and Senator Barbara Boxer to assure the
protection of the regions many natural resources and the recreational interest of the off road
vehicle community. It has been an innovative, strong partnership between interest groups that
have been adversaries in the past. BRC believes we have grown beyond those differences and
have charted a new future starting with the trust and actions taken together on this project.
Don Amador, Western Representative for the BlueRibbon Coalition, states, I believe this
particular instance creates a unique opportunity to create a win-win Monument that will
embody the principles espoused by even the staunchest opponents of Presidential authority. This
proposal has been formed with meaningful input from diverse local stakeholders, and is
supported by them.
I believe this monument designation will improve economic opportunities for the local
economies; increase coordination between federal agencies; provide well-managed recreation
opportunities including casual and permitted off road vehicle activity on designated roads, trails
and areas; safeguard the areas natural beauty, sensitive areas, wildlife and rare plants; and
ensure the continued use and enjoyment of these lands for future generations, Amador concludes.
