The Gift of English

Edward A. Quinto

Theres a beloved country in the far north, the cherished land of hope and glory
Beauty and prosperity bloom on her very isles, the home of the free and the fortress of the brave
From the restless azure her Empire arise, the naval power that rules the golden waves
And soul by soul her shining bounds increase, her soaring spirit spreads far and wide

Most great are them that learn her tongue, most dear to them that have spoken it
Her language that never falters, her language that stands the test of time
The nations of the world sing with one angelic voice and dream of one fraternal realm
Her flourishing gift most noble and universal, the completion of the olden tower is at hand
We may not anymore behold her might; we may not see her conquering crown
But the sun still shines on her Empire, the sun never sets on her vast domain
For her gentle ways are edifying beacons of peace and English her illuminating legacy
