UN-TENSIONED REINFORCEMENT IN PT SLAB

At Columns Locations
All flat slabs shall have minimum un-tensioned
TOP reinforcement at column position .
This
Thi minimum
i i
area off reinforcement
i f
should
h ld be
b at
least 0.075% of the larger gross concrete cross
sectional area of slab-beam
slab beam strips in the two
orthogonal equivalent frames intersecting at a
column.
Typically 16 bars are used for this purpose.

At Columns Locations
o

This reinforcement
shall be concentrated
between line that are
1.5 times the slab
depth either side of the
width of the column.

At Column Locations
o

The reinforcement should extend at least 0.2xL from

the face of the column. Where L is the clear span
between this column and the adjacent column

At Slab Edge
Un-tensioned reinforcement should be placed

This should include U-bars with at least two
longitudinal bars at top and bottom.

Typically 12 bars are selected for this purpose.

Temperature & Shrinkage Reinforcement
Temperature and shrinkage reinforcement is
required
i d where
h
the
th average precompression
i is
i
below the value allowed by code.

This reinforcement is provided by providing a

mesh reinforcement as follows:
For PT slab 300mm depth Top mesh &
bottom mesh shall be provided
For PT slab < 300mm depth only bottom
reinforcement shall be provided
