Spring Break

in Sapporo
My best friend and I will be spending the spring
break of our graduating year of highschool in
Sapporo, Japan.

Flight
My friend and I will take a direct flight to Sapporo from
Vancouver. The plane ride will take about 17 hours.
The total cost for both my friend and I, there and back will
be approximately $1,486.

The heart of Sapporo

Accommodation
We will be staying in the Art Hotels in Sapporo.
For our stay of seven nights (8 days), it will cost us around
$1,672 all together.
They have a hot spring, massage services etc., it is
situated in a good area in the town, yet not in the middle
of the bustling life. It is situated near a subway, a shrine,
and the Toyohira river, which are all places that are good
to be near.

Transportation
We will take the subway (the Namboku Line) located near our hotel, to
get around.
The subway fair ranges depending upon where you plan on traveling
to. When we travel around Sapporo, we will buy a short-distance ticket
ranging from around 200 yen to 360 yen (around $2.50 to $4.00 cad).
On days when we plan on traveling far, we will buy a day pass. Day
passes cost 1,000 yen (around $11 cad).
We plan on travelling far for four days, so we will purchase four day
passes, and four short-distance tickets.

Places We Will Visit

We will visit Otaru, a small harbor city around half an hour from
Sapporo by train.
We will also visit the Asahiyama Zoo and Tokiwa Park in Asahiyama.
Asahiyama is located in the heart of Hokkaido, and is the island's
second largest city. Asahiyama Zoo, is one of Japan's best and most
popular tourist destinations. Asahikawa Ramen, the local noodle dish, is
also quite well known.
Finally we will visit, Mount Hakodate along with travelling throughout
Sapporo. Mount Hakodate is a popular mountain in Japan that offers ski
and snowboarding services, along with a wonderful day and night view.

Food Cost & Spending Money

For the both of us, we will set aside $1,000 for food, and
$1,500 for spending.
That will leave each of us with $500 to spend on food, and
$750 to spend freely.

Insurance
We will both get baggage and personal effects insurance
with CIBC which will cost us $400 all together.
We will also get emergency medical insurance from CIBC,
which will cost us each $39.60.

Total Cost
All together the total price will be:
$1,486 (Flight)
$1,672 (Accommodation)
$47 (Subway Fair)
$1000 (Food)
$1500 (Spending
+ $479.20 (Insurance)
= $6,181.20
The price split between the two of us is $3,090.60 each.

Currency
Closer to the date we will transfer our Canadian money to
yen (Japanese currency).
Due to the wavering value of currencies, we will not know
until closer to the date, when it will be best to convert our
money, or how much money we will lose or gain in the
process.

Saving Up
In order to save up for this trip I will work for 6 hours/ day
on weekends during the school year. Assuming that I
make $10/hour, I will make around $4,200. Leaving me
with more than enough money for the trip.
