This article compares military pay with the opportunities that young people have in the
civilian sector of employment. It is explained how a booming economy has led to higher
wages and opportunities for those seeking employment with civilian careers, and how
more and more of the younger generation are going out and pursuing a college degree. As
a result, military pay increases are not competitive with civilian careers as more college
aged individuals would rather choose higher paying jobs and a college education than
going for a job with less pay possibly risking their lives fighting in a war.
This article will complement the topic that I am writing on by analyzing the comparison
between civilian sector jobs, and its military counterpart. It will further my argument that
enlisted armed service members are not getting paid enough, and is making sacrifices
both financially and physically. Ultimately the authors would agree that enlisted military
personnel should be compensated more to compete with private civilian industries and
attract more quality recruits.

This article looks into the mental health of an individual soldier. It talks about the process
for selection and ruling out certain individuals in the recruiting process. It takes into
consideration the mental stress a person undergoes as a soldier, and what effects it has on
them. Many service members experience things like PTSD, thoughts of committing
suicide, and many other various things as a result of their service within the armed forces.
This will help support my topic, as no one can get paid enough to live with factors
degrading your mental health and stability. Mental health one of the many things that an
enlisted soldiers sacrifice when they serve in the military. This is one thing that should be
considered when it comes to the soldiers pay. Every soldier is a human being with
feelings and emotions, and it is very important to consider their mental health and wellbeing. They deserve the appropriate compensation.

This article talks about closing the gap between pay between the civilian sector, and the
military. It raises good points about the fact that there being pay raises in the past, and
how we dont increase the pay as much. Today, a soldier deploys now, more than they
have ever deployed during the cold war, and we are not seeing much of an increase in pay

for our troops. Its something that should be examined by our government more
thoroughly.
This helps my topic out as it related directly with the effectiveness of a pay increase for
our military. It is something that can be applied to my topic directly, and talks about real
percentages and figures that have been used in the past. These numbers can be used to
help the reader understand this subject, and conclude that military should get a higher pay
raise.

This article talks about soldiers who live on food stamps to help support their families. It
opens your eyes to show you, that not everyone enlisted in the military are doing well and
are actually struggling. This is something that is real and is happening in our society right
now as evidence in the article and in other places. Its something that politicians and
policy makers are trying to eliminate, but this brings awareness to the issue of soldiers
relying on food stamps.
This article definitely backs up my argument that soldiers are clearly not get paid enough
for what they do. If someone is relying on food stamps, it typically means they are not
doing so well. This is a sign that the military is not paying the soldier enough to live
adequately on just his pay, so the soldier is relying on outside sources. This really should
not be the case for someone that is serving our country, and they should get paid enough
to live comfortably.

This article relates to soldiers becoming dependent on opiates to help them deal with
PTSD. More and more service members as the years progress gain PTSD. As the
members of our military are diagnosed with PTSD, they start to see an increase in opiates
being used amongst them. This is definitely not a good sign, and not healthy for our
troops. This is something that we should not be seeing if our troops were well taken care
of.
This article helps my topic as it talks about PTSD that some of our soldiers can be
diagnosed with. It brings into light the everyday struggles that armed service members
can go through on a daily basis, and what they do to cope. Usually this can be start
because of a traumatic experience during deployment. This helps the audience understand
and relate to my topic, as this can be emotional connection for some. It is definitely a tool
that can connect to the readers.

This article talks about divorce as it relates to members of the military. Divorce rate is
high amongst the members of our military. This is an article that raises an awareness of
this fact, and potential causes of why divorce is prevalent among our service members.
No one joins the military with the thought of an unsuccessful marriage, and that is one of
the sacrifices a soldier unknowingly makes. It can be hard on both parties involved.
This article also supports my argument of soldiers not getting paid enough. Along with all
of the other sacrifices that are made, a soldier sacrifices their marriage. Many times
during deployment, or even just being away from the family causes some emotional
distress among the married couple, that this can lead many to separate. The military does
not pay a soldier enough to experience a higher chance of divorce.
