Introduction

This booklet is the 1st edition of the academysoccercoach international Session

Sharing Scheme.
The idea behind this scheme is very simple.
Share three of your favourite practices and in return, you receive the favourite
practices of all the other coaches who join the scheme
In addition, I have shared thirty of my personal favourite practices.
The session index and featured coaches are shown on the right.
The sessions are designed by the individual coaches who work at different levels
of the game and in different countries around the world. I would like to say a
big thank you to these coaches for participating in the session share and wish
them every success in their future careers.

Two players work inside each of the 10x10yd areas.

Each player has a ball. To begin, one player is nominated
as the attacker and the other player as the defender. To
score a point, the attacker must dribble their ball and
stop it by a cone. The defender can stop the attacker
from scoring by arriving at the cone first.
After 30 seconds, the coach should stop the practice
and make the players change roles in the game.
This game encourages changes of speed, turns and skills
to lose the defender

One player is nominated as the defender

Two teams of players.
Two balls work at the same time

The other players are the attackers and have one ball
each.

The players must dribble to the mannequin, complete a

skilland then shoot at goal

The attackers score points by dribbling through a gate to

the outside of the pitch.

Immediately the players have to react and sprint

through the gate.

The attackers must then re-enter the pitch via a

different gate.
If the defender tackles the attacker, then the roles are
reversed.

the two defenders must run the length of the pitch and
then go to win the ball in each area 3v2.
Time how long it takes the two defenders to win all
three balls and get back to the starting position
Progression after winning the ball in the 1st zone (3v2)
the three attackers in the 1st zone can join the attackers
in the 2nd zone to make a 6v2 situation. This also
continues in the 3rd zone with a 9v2 situation.

Two teams. Each team must defend a ball that is placed

on top of a cone at their baseline

The blue team are the attackers and the red team
defenders. Three blue players go into one area whilst
the last player goes into one of the other three zones.

To score a goal, the team in possession must pass the

ball and knock the ball off the opponents cone.

The red team place one defender into each zone.

To progress this game you can include a rule where all

players must touch the ball before a goal can be scored.
This rule encourages patient possession / build up play.
In addition, adding two balls for the teams to defend
encourages switching of play.

The blue attackers play 3v1 and try to complete 5

passes. If successful, the blue players pass into their
team mate in the new zone and two players run to
support. The remaining blue player must now go into
another free zone. However, if the red team win
possession then the roles are quickly reversed.

to plant mushroom seeds all over the forest by rolling
their mushroom ball over every part of the playing area.

The only requirement is that every pass, shot, cross,

control, dribble, save, header MUST BE OUTRAGEOUS.

When the coach shouts I'm an OGRE the mini ogres

must plant the seeds by 1 performing inside taps on the ball
2 toe taps on the ball
3 flick the ball up (dig up/pack the dirt)

Every player is encouraged to try something outrageous

all the time.

Two teams play a possession game

After each pass, the player making the pass must run
out of the pitch to touch a pole and then run back into
the pitch.
This rule means the team in possession now have a
player less and must try to keep the ball when
outnumbered.
The players must scan the pitch, communicate with
team mates, shield and protect the ball

Two teams of six players. Each team split their team into
two groups of three players

The red players pass the ball down to the blue player
Immediately a 1v1 commences

The teams play a normal 3v3 game.

However, when a goal is scored the team conceding the
goal must leave the pitch and be replaced by the 2nd
team in that colour.
The team scoring the goal must all run back to their goal
and touch one of the posts before they can continue
their involvement in the game. This rule creates a
counter attack situation.

Players score goals when the ball is stopped on the

opponents end line.
After 30 seconds, the winning player moves up the
ladder and the losing player must go down the ladder.
If the players draw, a game of rock, paper, scissors is
used to find the winner.

who passes back into a different player on the same
team. This rule ensures that players are moving off the
ball in order to create space to receive a pass and to
support the player in possession.

Two channels run at the same time. The dribbling player

dribbles for 10yds and then enters the first square to
beat the 1st defender in a 1v1 situation.

The blue team start the game as the attackers.

The aim for the blue team is to play a one-two (bounce
pass) off a red player in the corner gates.

If successful, the dribbling player enters the second

square to beat the 2nd defender in a 1v1 situation.

If a red player is used, then they are now out of the

game and the blue team are trying to play out to the red
players in the other gates. The ultimate aim for the blue
team is to score on all four red players.

Now if the dribbler is successful they have a free shot at

goal against the goalkeeper.
Progression - The coach can add a free player inbetween the channel for the dribblers to play give and
goes with to beat the defenders.

However, if the yellow team regain possession they

must quickly pass out to the coach. This action restarts
the game . Now the yellows attack and the blues
defend

The passing players must move after passing the ball
and change position with one of their team mates.

1 Jump to head, 2 sprint 5yds, 3 sprint around the
outside poles, 4 on coaches call, players dribble to
other area

The coach can modify the rules in this game to increase

difficulty. The rules can be 3/5/10 passes before
shooting or limiting the players to a 2 or 1 touch finish

The two midfielders must combine to pass into the

The coach continually passes balls onto the pitch for the
teams to challenge for and compete to be the first team
to score 4 goals.

Inside the 30x20yd area the teams play a 4v4+neutral

game. The teams must complete 4 passes before
playing a pass into their target player. Now four players
run to attack 5v2 against the opponents defenders.

The rules of the game include

-Teams must make 1 pass before shooting
- to increase difficulty, teams must complete a
combination between players of either a one-two,
overlap or wall pass before shooting

If a goal is scored, the game restarts inside the 30x20yd

or two of the red attackers must pull into the free zone
to receive a pass from their defenders on regaining
possession.

Whilst this happens, the attackers and defenders rotate

roles.

The red midfielder must make a long pass into the

goalkeeper and then enter the pitch to play out of
defence with the two red defenders.
Immediately the two blue attackers run onto the pitch
to stop the three red defenders and the red goalkeeper
from playing out of defence.
The aim for the red players is to make a pass to the
resting red midfielder. The player making this pass then
goes off the pitch and the game is restarted. However, if
the blue attackers win the ball then they try to score in
the goal.

Four players go into grid one (one player picks up the

bib and plays as the defender)

Two teams of players. Each team is nominated a half of

the pitch and the teams must go into their half

Four players also go into grid two (one player picks up

the bib and plays as the defender)

To start, the coach passes into the blue team and calls
for one of the red players to run into that half of the
pitch.

Finally three players go into grid three (the players leave

the bib on the floor)
In grid one and two, the players play 3v1. if the
defender wins the ball, the defender drops the bib and
the player losing possession must run into grid three
(zone without a defender) pick up the bib and defend.

The blue team try to keep possession 4v1. if successful

the coach calls for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defender. If the
blues give possession away, then the player making the
mistake must quickly run into the red teams half where
the game recommences with the red team keeping
possession

One ball between two players

Two attackers v one defender

Two teams of players

The player in possession of the ball must dribble across

the area and out to a different player as quickly as
possible.

The coach passes the ball to one of the attackers who

must dribble towards the defender

Two neutral players

The players must complete a skill when dribbling across

area using the obstacles in the area
1 slalom the poles
2 skill on the mannequin
3 in and out of cones 4 turn in the gates
5 one-two off the rebound board (or with a coach)

The second attacker must now make an overlapping run

to support his team mate.
The attacker in possession can now pass to the
overlapping team mate or can use a disguised dummy
pass to trick the defender and gain space to dribble and
score themselves.

The coach starts the game by passing across the area to

the neutral player.
Immediately two players from each team run out for
the side of the goal in order to play the game
The neutral player now passes to one of the teams and
joins that team to make a 3v2 situation.
