ABSTRACT REASONING PATTERNS

TYPE 1

Type and size of the objects:

- Within the shapes of the same type or different types;

- Some objects of the same size or all different sizes;
- One type of object stands out in all shapes and could be a key object;
- An object consistently appears in each shape but with different colour.

Number of objects:

- The same number in all shapes;

- The same nuber of one type in all shapes;
- There is a relationship between two different types of objects;
- The number of objects of one type is linked to a feature of another object;
- If there are arrows, also check the number of arrowheads;

Number of sides:

- The same sides number for all objects;

- Odd or even number of sides for all objects;
- All the objects have a side number multiple of 2, 3, etc.;
- All the shapes together as opposed to each object individually;
- The sides number of one object is linked to another one.

Symmetries:

- Some obkects are a symmetrical image of others (line or rotational symmetry).

Number and type of angles:

- All angles are under/over 90/180°;

- There is a fixed number of right angles;
- The 90° angles match the number of other objects within the shape.

Colour:

- It influences the counting of some of the key features;

- Some types of objects have a specific colour.

Intersections:

- The number of intersections is the same in all shapes within the set;
- Only certain types of objects intersect;
- The objects intersect in a certain way;
- The intersections create objects which form a pattern repeated in all shapes.

Position and direction of the objects:

- Some specific objects always are in the same place;

- Same objects always point in the same direction;
- One type of object is always placed in the same way relative to another;
- Some objects are inside others;
- One object overlaps another one in the same way in every shape;
- Check the direction with the arrows point.

Arrows:

when the same objects are present, watch out for:

- The objects are laid out in a certain order;

- There is a relationship between two objects (different/same colour);
- The object in one particular position is always of the same colour or a particular type.
