earthquake hits Davao
Oriental town
Butuan City A 4.3 magnitude earthquake
struck Davao del Norte town yesterday
afternoon (August 17), the Philippine
Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
(Phivolcs)-Butuan reported this morning
(August 18). The regional office of the Office
of Civil Defense and regional monitoring
action center of the Regional Disaster Risk
and Reduction and Management Council in
Southern Mindanao said no damage or
casualty was reported. According to the
Phivolcs, the tremor occurred at 3:44 p.m.
and the epicenter was traced 60 kilometers
(km) southeast of Baculin town in Davao
Oriental. It was caused by movements along
a local fault in Davao Oriental, it said. The

tremor was tectonic in origin, with a depth


of 25 km, Phivolcs said. No aftershock was
registered, Phivolcs added.
