North East Nagalim Crisis->

Introduction :
History : Naga club formed in Kohima (1918). Simon commission creates the
bifurcation of ideology within the nagas needed for the demand of a separate
sovereign state comprising of the same ethnic identity rather than merging with
India as a part of it. Naga movement gains momentum (1940).Naga club -> Naga
National Council. (Aug 14),1947 Independence declared by NNC.
Insurgency , rebellion charges are framed against the nagas and apt action is
taken by the Indian armed forces and other sectors of the Indian armed
machinery which leads to unrest and civil injustice in the naga neighbourhood.
Armed forces special powers enacted for Naga Hills District.(1958). (1963)Nagaland attains statehood.
Recent History Shillong Accord signed in 1975 which served a dictum to the
naga leaders by the virtue of which they were to accept solutions under the
aegis of the constitution. A youth section of the NNC opposed this and this led to
the creation of NSCN (National Socialist Council of Nagaland)- 1980 Isak,
Muhivah , Khaplang. Motto- create sovereign Nagalim- unifying all the Nagainhabited areas in the north eastern region and northern Myanmar.Split in NSCN
NSCN (K) and NSCN(I-M).
NSCN runs parallel government , defence, home ,finance& foreign. Strong
cadre base .Well developed international relations with neighbouring entities
which facilitates in the supply of arms , ammunition, safe haven, training
facilities for the militia under the NSCN banner.
Important events : - 1) Pv Narsimha rao government signed peace accord 2015
(cease fire)
2) Modi led govt. New deal (peace accord signed) , assurance given
that no redrawing of the state boundaries will be done.
Outcomes : a) Granting of the provision-of article 371A of the constitution ,
forming a Pan-Naga Council without any territorial limits. b)Raising Indian reserve
battalions for the surrendered NSCN (I-M) cadres .
Cons :a) The neighbours Assam , Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh are dead against
the creation of Greater Nagalim.(NSCN M Cored demands.)
b)Collection of weaponry of the NSCN .
c)Nscn top leaders joining politics .
d)Lack of transparency with respect to the deal.
