ROOS VAN DE VELDE

Roos Van De Velde is a visual artist who is inspired by nature. Nature is the thread
that runs through all of her designs with a recurring and strong underlying presence.
Her china service symbolizes innovation in different fields. It was the first time a
collection was produced where the imperfection, the flaws and the coincidence
during the production process were given a reason to exit. The service is like
balancing on a thread: the perfect imperfection.

Dean and Lou Vastardis have been immersed in the specialty beverage and food
industry since their childhood. In 2007, Dean began to investigate some nontraditional coffee-brewing methods inspired by how chefs speed-marinate proteins.
Ground coffee and hot water eventually found their way into an airtight food-storage
canister modified with a tire valve and connected to a vacuum pump. After three
years of in-house product development the brothers realized they cracked the code
on much more than a cup of coffee.

HARIO (JAPAN)
Since 1972, HARIO manufactures heat proof glass in a factory without chimneys.
Removing chimneys was achieved by the independent development of technology to

melt raw materials of glass with electricity rather than with fuel oil. This
achievement changed the concept of glass factories which were known for smoke
and dust pollution to a factory which provides safety for the surrounding
environment as well as for the employees working inside.
HARIO uses 100% natural minerals to refine heatproof glass making it an
environmentally friendly material. The glass is able to withstand high heat and acid
making it suitable for use in microwave ovens. To improve the level of safety of
heatproof glass 100% natural salt is used to remove bubbles that form in the glass
during the manufacturing process. HARIO continues to create heatproof glass that is
safe to use and safe for the environment.
